Figo rules the roost for Ford India

Riding high on the back of colossal demand for hatchback “Figo”, American auto maker Ford Motors has just witnessed an increase in the sales figure, which is a profound four-fold jump. Starting the new year on a high, the classy automaker sold 10,026 units in the first month which is a converse from its sale for the same period last year of only 2453 units.

The milestone of 10,000 unit sales per month was reached by breaking a previous record of 9478 which the car sold in the month of March last year. The company reportedly sold 8600 unit of the hatch back Figo alone in the first month of January 2011, in effect rendering it the best month with regards to sales performance ever since it was launched in march 2010. Speaking at the event Mr. Michael Boneham, Managing Director Ford India was quoted as saying that the year 2010 was a landmark year for the automaker as the company was able to triple its volume. The MD was upbeat about the carry forward of the last year’s momentum effectively in the New Year by way of reaching the 10,000 units of sales in a month mark. For the year 2010, Ford Motors sold in all 83,887 units, a rise of 184 percent when compared to the sales figure for the year 2009. The press statement further revealed that since the launch of Figo, it has sold a total of 68,000 units of the model alone.

Mr. Boneham said that the feeling, which is resonating among the consumers, is very gratifying in the sense that the market has accepted the model with a great vigor and perceives it as a good value for money car. In addition to this the multitudes of awards that the car has won over the last year was also heartening to say the least.

Ford India at its manufacturing plant in Maraimalai Nagar manufactures Figo, Fiesta, Ikon, and the Endeavour and in the process provides employment directly to 5000 people.
