As reported earlier on March 6th 2011 (http://www.indiandrives.com/volvo-s60-to-be-launched-on-10th-march-2011.html), the Volvo S60 has been finally launched here in India. Moreover, we were the first to give you a detailed preview about the car (http://www.indiandrives.com/new-volvo-s60.html). Like its SUV sibling, the Volvo S60, this car is also said to be the fashion herald for Volvo Motors.
The Malaysian president of Volvo Cars, Göran Larsson, who was present at the launch ceremony commented that he was extremely delighted to be present at this launch and more so with the fact that the launch of the S60 here in India was done after a few months of its international launch. He also mentioned that it was the most dynamic car that the company ever produced and moreover, it has some of the latest features which are yet to debut in the company’s flagship models.
Like its international campaign which goes by the tag “Naughty Volvo”, this new S60 is said to be the harbinger of technology from Volvo. Earlier Volvo cars were considered as staid models with the least attention to design but now all these has set to change with the introduction of the Volvo S60 and the Volvo XC60. To supplement this thing, Volvo says that since the S60 has been launched, it has won over 34 awards so far in various categories such as design, technology and also safety. Bookings are open now and the deliveries would start from April 2011. There is a petrol and diesel model on offer. The diesel engine is the same one found in other Volvo cars in India. It is called the D5 and has got a twin turbo 2.4 liter motor with 5 cylinders and raking up 205 Bhp and 42 Kgm of torque. The petrol on the other hand is called T6 and it is a twin turbo unit. It makes 304 Bhp of peak power and a good 44.6 kgm of torque. Numbers claim that this petrol motor is the quickest in its segment for the 0-100 kmph dash. It gets a 6 speed auto gearbox and all wheel drive to boot for.
Now the prices. The diesel variant would be offered in two trims, the S60 D5 Kinetic and the S60 D5 Summun. The former goes for a price of Rs 27 lakhs whereas the latter is been offered for Rs 32 lakhs. The T6 petrol would be available only in one variant, Volvo S60 T6 Summun and is priced at Rs 34 lakhs. All these prices are ex-show room, Delhi prices. This makes it the cheapest Volvo in India and cheaper by its competition as well.
