BMW’s new 6 series to be launched soon

BMW are all set to launch their new updated 6 series or rather the 2011 model in India on 25th of March 2011. This new car would feature the design characteristics by new design boss Adrian van Hooydonk. Moreover, the new car is said to have sober styling as against the radical one for the previous 6 series.

The shark nose of the previous car car has been retained in this model however the hood has been elongated more with the head lamps now been LED Coronas. There are bigger air dams as well and the kidney grille been a bit more bulging than on other BMW models. At the rear, there is an integrated spoiler with the boot not looking like a last minute add-on. The tail lamps are also now in sync with the 5 series sedan. The new model sits lower than the old one and at the same time is also wider. Wheelbase has been enhanced and this can only mean better seating at the rear for two. At 450 liters, the boot capacity remains untouched. As always, the interiors are first rate with the slightly tilting dashboard still inclined towards the driver.

As far as engine options go, the 2011 BMW 6 series in India would have 2 petrol engines at launch. 640i, the base model would get a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline 6 engine with 320 Bhp on tap and a huge 45 kgm of torque. The claimed lap times from 0-100 kmph are 5.6 seconds whereas the electronically limited top speed is still 250 kmph. Moreover, the car is said to return fuel efficiency figures in excess of 14 kmpl overall.  The more powerful of the engines for the 650i variant will boast of a 4.4 liter V8 engine with turbocharging which will have a peak output of 407 Bhp and 61.2 kgm of torque. All these raw power figures would translate to 0-100 kmph times of under 5 seconds whereas the fuel efficiency figures would still read in 2 digit numbers. Much later a M version would also follow suit with its twin turbo V8 developing 550 Bhp whereas a diesel version would be launched in the second half of this year and it would be a turbo diesel producing 320 Bhp.
