Honda Siel Cars Reports 43% Decrease in April Sales

Japanese auto giant, Honda, operates in India through its partnership with Siel, known as Honda Siel Cars. The auto giant recently announced their sales figures for last month, which declined by 43.76%, selling 2,012 units in comparision to the 3,578 units that they sold in the same period last year.

The company’s sales for April comprised of 112 models of their Jazz hatchback, 253 models of their premium Civic sedan, 22 models of their CR-V SUV, 83 models of their Accord luxury sedan, with the highest units being sold by their flagship City sedan, which contributed 1,542 sales to the overall sales figure.

The natural crisis which struck Japan in March this year was responsible for the company’s poor performance. The earthquake and subsequent tsunami which hit Japan on March 11 affected a majority of Japanese auto companies among others.

The company stated that the natural disaster affected the supply chain of auto parts, which led to the company reducing their production output at their Greater Noida based plant by 50% from May onwards.

The company’s Senior VP of marketing and sales, Jnaneswar Sen was quoted as saying that they began production adjustments by mid-April itself for a smoother transition. They also moderated their wholesale dispatches so as to ensure continued supplies to their customers in the coming months.

The company hopes that the supply problems will cease after July and they can then recover their lost volumes.
