Maruti Suzuki Posts 8.8% Drop in Sales for June

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer recently posted their sales figures for the month of June. Last month, the company saw its sales decline by 8.8%, selling around 80,298 units in comparison to the 88,091 units it sold in June, last year.

The company’s domestic sales fell by 3.8% from 72,812 units to 70,020 units. Meanwhile, their exports decreased by 32.7% from 15,279 units to 10,278 units. The sales of their once hottest selling car, the M800, decreased by 12.8%, from the earlier 2,090 units to 1,823 units. Their A2 category which includes the Ritz, the A-Star, the Swift, the Estilo, the Wagon R and the Alto, however saw an increase of 2.4%, selling 52,599 units in comparison to the earlier 51,418 units.

Meanwhile sales of their A3 segment including the DZiRE and the SX4, dropped by 60.4%, from 8,081 units, to 3,199 units. The last month, was quite tumultuous for the company, which was thrown in the spotlight, as workers at their Manesar facility went on a strike that lasted 13 days resulting in a production loss of 12,600 units for the company.

Maruti’s new Kizashi premium sedan that was launched back in Feb 2011, has managed to sell around 32 units so far. Their total passenger vehicle sales also decreased from 6.4%, selling around 57,653 units last month, against the 61,589 units it sold in June 2010.
