JLR to Introduce New Discovery 4 and Range Rover Sport Variants

Jaguar Land Rover will launch upgraded Discovery 4 and Range Rover Sport variants in October, 2011, as they aim to complete their target of introducing forty new ‘product actions’ in a period of five years.

Both the upgraded variants will be available in market from October itself. The company started production of their new fuel efficient and smaller Range Rover model, named the Evoque that is targeted at urban audiences.

The 2012 Range Rover Sport and Discovery 4 both feature the new ZF8HP70 automatic 8 speed gear box for reducing carbon emissions and improving fuel efficiency. The engine powering these models is are diesel 3l SDV6 engines. Both the models also boast of new equipment and improved interiors.

Other add-ons include a touch screen with dual view as well as a heating system for the car that one is able to programme in advance by as much as seven days. While the Discovery 4 has a starting price of 37,995 British pounds, the Sport is available starting from 48,795 British pounds.

The UK MD for the Land Rover brand, Colin Green, said that the new enhanced 2012 Sport will maintain its lead position of being among the most fuel efficient and high performing SUVs available currently in the market.

Both these launches will take place at a time when the subsidiary of Tata Motors increases its expenditure on development and research to the tune of 1.5bn British pounds per annum, from the earlier target of 1bn British pounds.

An auto analyst at London’s HIS Global Insight, Ian Fletcher, said that by constantly upgrading their products and ensuring that they maintain their competitive edge in the market. They are also investing keenly.

Fletcher added that will the expenditure is below that of what German premium brands spend, the upgrade signifies the intentions of the company to expand further in this market.
