Tata Motors to Open Vehicle Assembly Facility Next Week in South Africa

We reported a while ago about Tata eyeing more global markets to release the Nano, and this is not the end to its plans, as the company is making aggressive attempts to increase their presence in global markets. The company is now all set to begin construction of a new plant in South Africa, boosting the country’s economy along with their global expansion strategy.

While there has been no word from Tata officials on this issue, Debasis Ray, an official spokesperson for the company, was quoted as saying they won’t divulge any information right now, however they have been planning to build a facility in this market for a while now. Tata would be announced further details of their plans for the South Africa soon; however he did not provide any details regarding the investment incurred in this plant.

He added that they were very excited that this plan was so close to come true, and that they are on the threshold of a big milestone.

According to reports, a ceremonious sod-turning event was to take place this month on the 22nd. The plant located at Rosslyn in Pretoria’s northern industrial area is most likely to produce a bus or commercial vehicle for its African and local market. Tata is known in this market for their range of commercial vehicles and trucks, rather than their consumer cars.
