Swift production to be increased by Maruti

Inspite of all the hoopla going on about the strike at Maruti’s Manesar, things are looking rosy for India’s largest car manufacturer. While recent reports have confirmed that the strike has been called off and now production is back to normal, to make up for the losses and to reduce the customer waiting periods, Maruti have started thinking on the lines of increasing the production capacity for the 2011 Swift model.

The 2011 Maruti Swift currently has about 1 lakh confirmed bookings and a 6 months waiting period. In some parts of the country, the diesel variant has got about a year long waiting period. In a lieu to regain the customer’s confidence and to ensure that they don’t stray away to a competitor’s product, Maruti are increasing production capacity of the Swift by a good 40 percent. Currently, just before the strike, the Manesar plant used to have a capacity of 12k Swifts each month and after the proposed production hike, there would be about 17k Swift cars each month. Normal production for the A-star as also the SX4 are already in full swing.
