Chevrolet registers record global sales in 2011

General Motors have released its global sales figures. According to it, its Chevrolet brand has sold an astounding 4.76 million vehicles worldwide in the year 2011. Overall, GM’s global sales figure stands at more than 9 million vehicles sold worldwide in 2011. Compared to the sales figures achieved in 2010, there is an almost 7.6 per cent jump in overall sales of the company.

Market share of GM has also seen an increase in 2011. The company now has 11.9 per cent share in the global market, which is almost four-tenth of a point more than what it was in 2010.

Chevrolet registers record global sales in 2011The increase in sales was led by the US, where Chevrolet sold a total of 1,775,812 vehicles, almost 13 per cent more than its sales figure in this country in 2010. The company did well in China too, where it sold almost 600,000 vehicles, up by 9.5 per cent compared to the previous year. Other markets where the company registered significant growth are Russia (49 per cent), Vietnam (79 per cent), Germany (21 per cent), Peru (81 per cent), South Africa (50 per cent), Thailand (57 per cent), Israel (46 per cent) and Turkey (30 per cent). The top 10 market for Chevrolet were USA, Brazil, China, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Argentina, Uzbekistan, India and Colombia.

According to Mr. Dan Akerson, CEO and Chairman of GM, this growth of Chevrolet was primarily because of its strong product line-up that could cater to the requirements of both developed and emerging markets perfectly. Individually, the sales figure was led by the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan which sold more than 670,000 units all across the world. In the US, Chevrolet was the best-selling passenger car brand, thanks to the success of Chevrolet Cruze.
