Maini Group’s Tomcar set to roll in India

Maini group is all set to launch Tomcar in the Indian circuit very soon after the car was unveiled at the 2012 DEFExpo held in Delhi. Tomcar is an all-terrain high-performance oriented car which is totally military graded. The car can tread rough paths with optimum ease owing to the suspensions of the car. The tires attached to the car are of high durability which ensures that even if the car slides off the track, the driver won’t find it tough to regain control of the vehicle. The car is slated to be roll out towards the borders of the country where the military will be putting them to use. Such types of all-terrain cars are perfect for border security forces deployed at hostile areas.

These cars have been designed in such a manner so that they can tackle any surface or obstruction. The design is quite rugged which keeps the driver safe in the cabin even if the vehicle meets with an accident. The main manufacturing unit of the Maini Group is located in Bangalore where Tomcar will be built on a massive scale. The car also has its share of customers based overseas and thus it will be imported to other countries as well. More units will be manufactured for domestic customers though.

It has not been long since Maini Group entered the Indian market and thus they are yet to make a name for themselves in the industry but the company has kept its aspirations high and plans to make more high-performance vehicles just like Tomcar. Maini Group is also eyeing a few other spots in India where they can establish new manufacturing units so that they can establish a stronghold over the automobile market here which is termed as one of the most progress-oriented automobile markets in the world.

Sandeep Maini who happens to be the Chairman of Maini Group was ecstatic on the launch of Tomcar. He gave a brief statement in front of the media in which he enthusiastically said that Maini Group was delighted to be given a chance to launch Tomcar in Indian market where there are few all-terrain cars for the Defense, Homeland Security and the Paramilitary Security Scouting. He feels that the military of India needs all-terrain high-performance vehicles and thus Tomcar will serve their purposes.

These cars are not exactly fir to run on normal roads. The tires are tough and thick which makes them durable to rock terrains. These types of vehicles will help the border security force monitor even the most hostile of areas where a normal car cannot tread.

Presently these cars are in high demand in Afghanistan as the British Army uses them to monitor unreceptive areas. The Israeli Military, Border Patrol as well as the US Customs make use of Tomcar and thus the popularity of these cars in the Military circuit is immense. Thus, bringing these cars to the Indian automobile market has been a generous move on the part of Maini Group.

Suzuki Swift Attitude launched for UK

Suzuki has launched a hatch with attitude for the UK market. Launched back in 2005, the Suzuki Swift was followed by launch of the Sports version and now since they are so thorough with the concept, a new version rolls out, dubbed Swift Attitude. This indigenous, limited and special version Swift is highly based on its predecessor.

Scheduled to hit the showrooms in the Britain on April 2, Suzuki will produce only 500 units of the Attitude hatch. Offered in two-distinctive variants, there is the three-door version priced at £10,750 (INR 8.77 lacs) and the five-door model, pegged at £11,220 (INR 9.15 lacs).

Based on the SZ3 model, the Attitude will appeal to younger drivers. Under the hood is a 1.2-litre Dual VVT petrol motor pumping up to 93 bhp max power, together with a stunning fuel efficiency of 20 kmpl and a CO2 emissions figure of 116 g/km.

In terms of safety, seven airbags and ESP come as standard. Also standard is USB auxiliary and air conditioning, while for added value, Swift Attitude is packed with front fog lamps and rear privacy glass together with an enhanced sporty appearance consisting of Carbon fiber effect roof and door mirrors, rear upper spoiler in body color, Carbon fiber effect ‘Attitude’ badging and 16-inch wheels in black paint finish. Fiat 500X crossover making a debut next year

Fiat introduced the Fiat 500 as a small hatch. Then it grew into a 500C cabriolet; then the sporty 500 Abarth; while the 500L MPV made its world debut at 2012 Geneva Motor Show. Still growing bigger and meaner, the all-new Fiat is making its New York debut as a crossover, dubbed 500X.

Expecting a lunch in 2013, the Fiat 500X will battle in the mushrooming crossover market against the MINI Cooper Countryman, Buick Encore and Ford EcoSport.

Following the style of Fiat 500L, the 500X will draw on a widened adaptation of Italian automaker’s small car architecture that presently underpins the Punto. However, it is expected to be the longest in the Fiat 500 family at 13.7 feet.

Fiat’s Mirafiori facility in Turin is expected to manufacture the 500X, and the same facility rolls out the 500L. Production is expected to commence in December 2013, with an expected annual capacity of 280,000 crossovers. The 500L will also hit the US market early as next year.

Power plant options available for the 500X include a two-cylinder 900cc TwinAir, four-cylinder 1.4-litre petrol and a turbocharged 1.3-litre Multijet II diesel motor.

For the Fiat-Chrysler venture, the new Fiat 500X is a crucial model that will provide the basis for a new compact crossover from Jeep brand, which is currently only known as the B-SUV. Though Europe is the chief market for Jeep, a US trim could roll in sometimes soon.

Tata MBPV (Micro Bullet-Proof Vehicle): This particular vehicle is equipped with bullet-resistant metal panels for safety of the passengers.The compact vehicle has a unique four-wheel-assisted turning efficiency for smooth movement inside the indoor areas with an excellent volume of power-to-weight ratio. The firing ports of this urban warfare machine on wheels have been incorporated with an additional capability of climbing stairs with ease.

Tata Light Armoured Vehicle: This is a simple defense vehicle designed for the basic requirement of assisting the forces in counter-insurgency activities as well as for patrolling any required area as such.

Tata 12×12 Prahaar Missile Carrier:  This is a very well thought of missile carrier for the armed forces developed in close observation of R&DE-DRDO. Tata 6×6 7kl Refueler: The main purpose of this combat support vehicle is for refueling the vehicles in its fleet. This all-wheel-drive, all-terrain maneuverable, high mobility vehicle is designed and developed for the paramilitary, DPSUs, Indian Armed Forces, State Police and aviation industry.

Tata Mobile Bunker: This is a purpose built vehicle on the platform of LPA 713 four-wheel-drive to make sure that it moves quick and equally easy in the naxal-infested areas and work as a base for retaliation activity by the forces. The vehicle passes the NIJ Level III of ballistic protect test.

Tata 8×8 Water Purification System:  This MWD (mobile water decontamination) system is based on the platform of LPTA 3138 8×8 of Tata Motors. This is an all-weather, all-terrain maneuverability enabled vehicle made in collaboration with M/s. WEW of Germany. This MWD is efficient enough to purify even the most impure kind of water and make it carriageable through the RO (reverse osmosis) process.

Tata LSV – QDMCT (Quick Deployment Mobile Communication Terminal):  This is an immediate deployment enable self-equipped with a communication system which is vehicle-mounted and gives a large area of IP enabled network for forces to communicate with each other in the battle-field. This is also shelter-based if so required. The data, video and voice are passed through a very secure and reliable IP network between different nodes.

Along with these elaborated mean machines for Defense Forces, Tata Motors had Safari Storme GS 800 4×4 targeted to commute officers across various locations in India as well as Safari Storme Armoured equipped with the all-new benchmark technology, stronger suspension system, chassis, with enhanced braking potential for the VVIP movements. The German luxury automaker will further plans to expand its foothold in markets such as Bhopal, Coimbatore and Delhi West in April 2012.

Audi India targets expanding its dealers network to 25 dealerships in current calender from the current 16 outlets. In 2011, the luxury automaker launched new car showrooms in Delhi, Chennai, Ludhiana, Surat and Indore.

Covering a total area of 9684 sq. ft. Audi Nagpur showroom features a honeycomb aluminum façade on the outside. While the showroom will display the entire product lineup of Audi cars available in India, 10 cars will be put up on display at a time. For the Indian market, Audi displayed spectacular performance with record sale of 600 cars in February 2012 – a growth of 33 per cent compared to the same period last year in Feb with 450 cars. At the Brussels plant, production of the Audi A1 has been running since May 2010, while production of the new A1 Sportback began in 2012. Between 2012 and 2016 the brand with the four rings is planning to invest a total of €13 billion – mainly in new products and the extension of production capacities – in order to sustain the Company’s technological lead embodied in its “Vorsprung durch Technik” slogan. Audi is currently expanding its site in Gyor (Hungary) and will start production in Foshan (China) in late 2013.

Toyota India exports the Etios range to South Africa from April 4

Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), the Indian division of Japanese automaker Toyota Motors, will start exporting two vehicles from its local portfolio to the South African market. The Toyota Etios sedan  was launched exclusively for the Indian market in 2010, while the hatch Etios Liva followed in mid 2011. Come 4th April, TKM will dispatch the first batch of Etios twins to the South African market, where the official launch is scheduled for 21st May 2012.

The Bangalore facility will provide the platform for the export range. Moreover, only petrol variants will be exported to the right hand drive South African market. In order to meet the demands, TKM announced to ramp up the annual production from current 80,000 units to 1,20,000 units.

Toyota India exports the Etios range to South Africa from April 4

Positioned as entry level cars, the Etios twins will replace the Toyota SA’s compact hatch Tazz, which faded out five years ago. Moreover, the exported models will be trimmed to suit the SA market, and might receive new power plant and upgraded cosmetics. Following the export to South Africa, the Japanese automaker plans to expand its foothold across emerging markets like Brazil, Indonesia and Thailand. In Thailand, the Etios will join the Thai EcoCar project that was launched to promote clean, green cars. The Etios has already been caught testing in Indonesia, and China might receive a bigger brother of the entry level car.

At the ongoing DEFEXPO India 2012, Tata Motors have showcased its range of defense vehicles including troop carriers, combat vehicles, logistics vehicles, tactical vehicles and equipments which are in its concept stage, but the prototypes seems to have cleared the basic clearance of the defense forces for further tests and trials. The Tata Safari Storme GS 800 4×4 was the centre of attraction with its other brethren, which were Tata Safari Storme Armoured and Tata Xenon Recce 4×4.

The Tata Safari Storme GS 800 4×4 is built for the specific purpose as a general service vehicle for the armed forces.It can also be used as a patrolling vehicle, escort vehicle or a staff car. Tata’s own direct injection common rail, 2.2 liter turbocharged intercooled diesel engine pumps out 140 hp at 4000 rpm with a peak torque of 320 Nm at 1700-2700 rpm where power to weight ratio of the car is 33 kW per tonne. The engine can make this mammoth vehicle chase anything at a top speed of 160 kmph. The minimum turning circle diameter is 10.8 meter with a max gradeability of 26 degrees and the fording depth is 300mm. The gross vehicle weight without the payload is approximately 3000 Kilograms, which the payload could be 825 kilograms. The power steering fitted vehicle has AC with multi-directional nozzles dispenses air supply which could be adjusted for passengers with a 4-speed blower and a unique roof AC for the rear passengers which is completely concealed. The front glass of windshield has hot air type defrosting and demisting efficiency. There are airbags for driver and passenger with a lot of other safety features. These include ABS (anti-lock braking system), engine immobilizer with the central door locking by remote control along with interior light unit works the same way as theatre dimming system, the armed forces specificities,as in light for separate map reading for front as well as rear passengers, approach light, ORVM (outside rear view mirrors) with LH/RH defrosters and blinkers which can be electrically adjusted as per requirement from inside the vehicle. All the 4 side doors have power windows with door safety lamps cum puddle lamps fitted on each four door.

A whole range of trim levels of the car will be made available by the company. Fiesta ECOnetic will be available in two variants. One will be a three-door version whereas the other would be a five-door version of the car. Unfortunately a bad news is there for all those who are expecting the car in India. Ford has given out a statement in which they have ruled out the possibility of the car being launched in the Indian market owing to many reasons even if Indian market holds a lot of prospects for automobiles.But they promise that the technology used in Fiesta ECOnetic will be put to use in the original Fiesta so that it could be more fuel-efficient. Ford realizes that India needs fuel-efficient cars owing to the fact that the prices of petrol and diesel is increasing at a constant and alarming rate in India, which in turn has increased the demand for diesel and CNG cars since last two years.
