Volkswagen Jetta petrol coming in April

In 2011, German automaker Volkswagen launched the Jetta for the Indian market. Though the car was diesel powered it did not do fairly well against the daughter company, Skoda. Whereas its Polo is dominating the hatchback segment and Passat has a fare share in mid-segment market.

Now the German auto giant is back with a petrol variant of Volkswagen Jetta. It is claimed to carry a small capacity fuel-economic engine, similar to the powerplant of the daughter brand, Skoda. The Skoda Laura and Skoda Superb are powered by a 1.8-litre TSI motor that pumps up to 158 bhp. However, the new Jetta will receive a 1.4-litre TSI that churns 120 bhp, and gives greater fuel economy. Volkswagen also produces a 1.4-litre turbo charged petrol that pumps out a massive 155 bhp, however this won’t be powering the petrol Jetta.

Since the current Volkswagen Jetta is a premium class sedan, we wonder how the new Volkswagen  Jetta will be placed as it sports a small capacity engine. The pricing of the petrol Jetta is also very decisive for going up against the more powerful Laura. Volkswagen will have offer something more with its Jetta for it to compete in premium segment market. We are expecting a launch in April this year. Stay tuned for more updates.
