2014 Skoda Fabia and VW Passat to be based on MQB platform

Skoda has plans to introduce all-new Fabia hatch, based on its German subsidiary Volkswagen’s MQB (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform. The Czech hot hatch did not do fairly well in the market, and Skoda is planning for a 2014 model based on the much successful MQB platform.

In addition, the German automaker has plans to fully utilize its facility for nex-gen VW cars, including the Polo, Passat and Vento. There is also report of the 2014 Skoda Fabia to house an improved three-cylinder TDI engine. While the MQB platform will give the Fabia an extended wheelbase, the length will remain unchanged to keep the car more driver oriented. VW’s Polo hatch will also feature an extended wheelbase with uncompromised length.
