Jaguar F-Type confirmed for 2013: 2012 New York Auto Show

With the 2012 New York Auto Show going at full-throttle, Jaguar has announced that the successor of E-Type sports coupe will hit the market by mid 2013. Unveiled previously at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the C-X16 was just a concept version of the sports coupe that will go in production with the F-Type badge.

After receiving tremendous response at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jaguar director, Adrian Hallmark said in a press release that the C-X16 will be making into production sooner. He further announced his plans to design the car for the market segment where the cat-brand has been absent for a long while.

There is sparse detail on the production F-Type, however, there are certain clues on the body construction and power plant. Jaguar will take benefits of their leading expertise in aluminum vehicle construction. No word on the power plant yet, but Jaguar confirmed that a new breed of engines will join the Jag family with ‘stunning sports car performance’. The concept variant featured a hybrid power plant with turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 that pumps out 374 hp in combination with a 94 hp electric motor. Acceleration from 0-60 mph will come in under 5 seconds and the car will have a top speed of over 290 kmph. We speculate the production version to carry a supercharged V6 for the sports car performance.
