Ssangyong Rexton SUV facelift to debut at 2012 Busan Auto Show

With just days to go, auto majors around the globe are fast pacing towards showcasing their marvels at the 2012 Busan Auto Show. While Volkswagen will boast its R-Line package across the models, Mercedes will showcase new entries in the BlueEfficiency family. More gladly, the Indian giant Mahindra & Mahindra is not far behind, as it plans to unveil the revamped Ssangyong Rexton SUV at the upcoming show in Korea.

Mahindra owned Korean SUV maker, Ssangyong has plans to impress the world with the introduction of the revamped Rexton SUV at the 2012 Busan Auto Show. From the renderings, we can translate the Rexton has undergone a huge cosmetic uplift, featuring a more modern guise, unlike the current runner. Though the renderings reveal that the Rexton SUV will debut in its concept form, the production variant may not see radical changes.

The new Ssangyong Rexton features a redesigned front fascia with daytime running lamps and LED lights as major highlights. Front grille also gets new design and the bumper is more curvy than the current model, giving the new Rexton a more aggressive and sporty appeal. However, it is unlikely for the massive alloys to appear on the SUV when it makes into production.

As previously seen, Ssangyong unveiled the Actyon Sports and the Korando SUV facelift, which featured a very outrageous design from the Korean automaker. Since the revamped Rexton is a rather practical looking SUV, it is likely to make into production virtually unchanged. While Mahindra has some spectacular product portfolio in the compact crossover segment, the new Rexton appears more to be battling with segment leader Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. For the Indian market, Mahindra will launch the Rexton as a seven-seat SUV later this year.

Powering the current Rexton is a 2.7-litre, inline-five cylinder, common rail turbo diesel engine that pumps out as much as 182 bhp peak power and 402 Nm peak torque. This is a Mercedes borrowed engine that is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. There is no word on the new engine and transmission department, for which we have to wait for the 2012 Busan Auto Show to kick-off in coming days.
