Fiat to develop Alfa Romeo roadster under Mazda venture

Italian automaker, Fiat S.p.A has come to terms with Mazda Motor Corp, in jointly producing a roadster under its Alfa Romeo brand. The two-seat roadster is a part of a technology and product development pact between the Japanese and Italian brands.

In a statement released by the company, the roadster will feature Mazda’s MX-5 technology, while gracing the badge of Alfa Romeo and Mazda brands. Mazda’s Hiroshima facility will platform the rear-wheel-drive vehicle, and the Italian roadster will roll out in 2015.

Besides the different badges, the models sold under Alfa Romeo and Mazda will sport different power plants. Each engine will be built in spec with the respective markets.
