Volvo XC40 Compact Crossover Caught in Lens

Volvo is planning to launch a BMW X1 and Audi Q3 rival that is soon to be introduced in India, the Volvo XC40, compact crossover. The automaker is slowing prying its way into the segment of premium feature packed vehicles that’s at present conquered by 3 Germans. Earlier in 2012, we saw the striking V40, which was introduced in the month of March at Geneva Auto Show and now the all-new compact crossover is based on B-segment vehicle. As expected it looks identical to that of V40; however with superior ride height, slightly rugged look and ground clearance.

The Volvo XC40 will perhaps be offered with an array of diesel and petrol powerplants: the petrol range includes a turbo 1.6 litre powerplant known as T4 that generates 180PS; the larger T5 producing 254PS of power and turbo 1.6 litre pumping out 150PS of power. The diesel range adds 2.0 litre D4 and D3 powerplants, which generate 177PS and 150PS of power respectively and 1.6 litre D2 turbodiesel, which churns out 115PS of power. The automaker is also planning to go aggressive in the country – they have the right products, but not the brand name here to challenge BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz.
