Chevrolet likely to bring in upgrades for Cruze sedan later this month

With increasing fuel rates in the country, better fuel-efficiency has now taken the first place of priority amongst many automakers. The same can be seen with General Motors as it is likely to bring in an interesting upgrade to the Chevrolet Cruze sedan with changes in the drivetrain. The upcoming upgrade of the Cruze sedan is being anticipated to provide better fuel efficiency, drivability and refinement. This is certainly going to give the sedan an extra edge in the segment as the existing Cruze too has a powerful engine. The upgraded engine is reported to generate peak power of 164bhp, with a peak torque of 38.7kgm. The entire engine is coupled with 6-speed automatic and manual gearboxes, unlike the conventional 5-speed transmission.

Such an extraordinary power is the result of redesigning of the cylinder head. The car will now use chain-driven (instead of rubber belt-driven) DOHC valve. The tweak of the engine now includes the common rail system working at 1800 bar with seven injections, unlike the current 1600 bar with five injections. In fact, the upgrade of the Chevrolet Cruze has taken into account many small aspects which are usually ignored. For example, the air intake has now been placed closer to the inlet manifold so as to improve turbo lag. Apart from this, vibrations produced by the engine too have been checked by dual-mass flywheel.

The upgraded version of the car leads to a linear, smooth and effortless acceleration, along with better fuel economy. The engines coupled with 6-speed manual gearbox has a fuel economy of 10.8 kmpl in city and 15.7 kmpl on highways, while the 6-speed automatic transmission engines’ figures stand at 9.8kmpl and 15.3kmpl for city and highway respectively.

The engine upgrades of the Chevrolet Cruze are likely to make an entry later this month.
