Tata Motors to launch three new cars within 9 months: Sources

Indian auto giant Tata Motors is working on three new cars to bridge gap between the Nano and Indica, and to provide consumers with more options to choose from, sources revealed.

Sources said that Tata Motors will launch these three new cars within the nine months to come.

The reported move may be the manufacturer’s attempt to ease off the intense pressure on sales that its Nano and Indica had to bear over the recent past. Cut-throat competition from rival manufacturers might have also prompted Tata Motors to bring in variety into the market.

The Indian manufacturer’s three potential cars will reportedly include a Tata Nano with a 3-cylinder diesel engine, a revamped Safari that was displayed with a Storme moniker at the Auto Expo and an all-new car to take on rival cars like that of the Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon.

The potential small hatchback model, which will compete with the Alto, Eon and other cars in the A-segment, will apparently be an effort to bridge the existing gap between the Tata Nano and the Tata Indica.

Tata Nano’s 3-cylinder diesel engine will be the smallest diesel car-engine in India until rival manufacturer Maruti Suzuki launches its proposed 800cc small diesel-car.

The Nano is the world’s cheapest car. It starts at 141,898 and is a good upgrade option for millions of middle-class motorcycle owners. It was introduced in 2009 and enjoyed good demand, but sales slipped to an all-time low of 509 units in November 2010, after the cars caught fire.
