Freelander 2 upgraded, coming to India soon

The initial images and details of the upcoming upgraded version of Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV, which will make its debut at this year’s Moscow Motor Show, have finally been revealed.

The enhanced Freelander 2 SUV promises to offer better comfort, convenience and driving experience.  Add-ons like sharper exterior design, vibrant colours, new derivatives, enhanced equipment levels add further to the luxuriance and attractiveness of the vehicle.

The foremost noticeable feature of the interior of the Freelander 2 is its contemporary looking cabin. The interior of the new SUV features three new colour ways as part of a ‘Dynamic’ derivative. Three new interior colours are Ebony, Ivory or Pimento, each of which matches stitching and coordinated door casings to complete the look. There is a spanking new centre console, a seven-inch colour touchscreen, Meridian audio systems and optional satellite navigation.

While passive start has replaced the typical key dock, there is a new ‘intelligent’ e-parking brake that can adjust brake force according to the slope the vehicle is parked on. The intelligent system is capable of even determining whether the brakes are cold or hot. If brakes are hot, the system ‘wakes up’ every so often to make certain that the brakes’ clamping force is not lost as they cool down. The brakes can operated with a single switch, and the electric parking brake can still be used as an emergency brake. It employs skid prevention techniques to automatically pick the most secure braking method.

An additional safety feature makes sure that brakes cannot be released unless the vehicle’s driving seat is occupied. The replacement of the key docking system with the form of Passive Start makes the system more convenient. It means the engine starts at the touch of a button as long as the key is somewhere inside the car.

Another new feature for the new SUV is its rear view camera capability, which enables the driver to view the scene from the back of the vehicle on the Infotainment screen. The dynamic lines on the screen represent the boundaries of the vehicle and the predicted path as the driver reverses the vehicle. There is also a new system, called ‘Hitch Assist,’ which can be described as a graphic placed over the camera depicting the position of the tow ball.

It also has all new rear view camera capability and an all new voice activation system with visual prompts, called ‘Say What You See.’

The XS model of the new SUV comes equipped with all-new an enhanced bodystyling pack, 17-inch alloy wheels, more fashionable, Xenon LED technology-equipped lights front and rear, which give the vehicle a very integrated and co-ordinated appearance.

The revamped front and rear lamps give the Freelander 2 a sportier yet persistent new look. The front running lights hit the road with a new signature graphic. The grille and fog lamp bezels of the SUV feature a bright finish, while the front grille surrounding features paint detailing changes. Insert bars and fender vent harmonises the different elements.

Land Rover Global Brand Director John Edwards described the Freelander 2 SUV as another step forward as it offers a blend of better equipment levels, safety, superb design and all-terrain capability.

Speaking about the company’s new product, Edwards added, “In addition, our customers continue to benefit from our refined and economical range of diesel engines.”

Edwards underlined that the Freelander SUV scored five stars in the coveted Euro NCAP for travellers’ safety.

The pricing and launch date for the new Freelander 2 have yet to be revealed.
