Tata Motors records decline in sales in September

Tata Motors declared a decline of around 4% in its overall sales of commercial and passenger vehicles, which remained at 75,773 units during the last month of 2012.

During the period under review, the domestic sales of the country’s biggest auto maker stood at 70,332 units, down 3% as compared to the 72,566 units sold during the same period of 2011.

Cumulative sales (comprising exports) for Tata Motors for the financial surged 3% to 409,898 vehicles as against 399,661 units sold during the corresponding period of last year.

The company’s sales of commercial vehicles during the last month in the Indian market remained at 48,680 units, up 5%, from 46,247 vehicles, sold during September 2011.

The company’s LCV sales stood at 33,393 units, an increase of 19% as against 28,092 vehicle units marketed during the same period of 2011.

M&HCV sales dropped 16% to 15,287 vehicles from 18,155 vehicles sold during September 2011.

The sales of the company’s passenger vehicles for the last month were 21,652 vehicles, down 18% as compared to 26,319 units, sold during September 2011.

Tata Nano sales during the last month stood at 5,491 vehicles, up 87% as compared to 2,936 units sold in September last year. The sales of Tata Indica range declined 23% to 7,936 units as compared to 10,282 vehicles sold during September last year.

The Indigo array registered sales of 3,706 vehicle units, which remained down by 52% from 7,793 units sold in September of the past year. The sales of Sumo/ Safari/ Aria/ Venture also dropped down by 15% as against 5,308 nos sold during September last year.

Tata Motors sales from exports at 5,441 vehicles in September 2012 remained down by 12% from 6,217 vehicles during September 2011. The cumulative sales from exports for the financial were 27,749 units, down by 11% as against 31,078 nos. sold during the corresponding period last year.

Shares of Tata Motors surged Rs 7.1 or 2.65% to rule at Rs 274.55 on Monday.
