Volkswagen Taigun Compact SUV spotted in India

The VW revealed its Compact SUV concept, Taigun at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in October back in 2012, which has now been spotted in India. The vehicle was caught by an Autocar reader who was on his way back from his workplace on NH6 near Bally in Hooghly District, West Bengal. However, it is still not clear if the vehicle is bound for Indian market or is just an export model intended for Bhutan or Nepal.

As Volkswagen Taigun is a global product, one can expect it to hit Indian market quite soon. Indian market already has Renault Duster and Ford EcoSports will also be arriving soon. One of the vehicles spotted has a 2.0 TDI badge at the rear that means that the vehicle will be housing a mighty 2.0 litre diesel engine. Although a 2.0 litre diesel engine in Indian market doesn’t makes much sense but we still expect VW to power the Indian version with the same engine.

The Volkswagen Taigun will be directly facing likes of Renault Duster and Ford EcoSports which hires engine with lower displacement.

However, company has not yet revealed its cards on the launch but we can hope to hear something quite soon. Just like the UP, Taigun also looks small from the outside just 3.86 meter long and about 1.73 meter wide but is still quite big from inside which can be attributed to its massive 2.47 meter wheelbase. This dimension gives Taigun a little overhang of just 708mm in the front and about 681 mm at the rear. The clear and concise exterior styling follows the Volkswagen design DNA.

The look of the new Taigun has been styled enough to replicate its SUV brothers like Touareg and Volkswagen Tiguan. This can be seen from the rugged side panels, practical roof rails with LED spotlight and underbody protection. The wide tracks of the Taigun (about 1,473 mm in the front and rear) helps it to get a meaningful look while the 17 inches alloys with the 205/50 R17 tyres, plenty of torque and high ground clearance helps the machine to deal with the rough and demanding tracks. This is all we have for now, but we can expect VW to come up with something quite soon.
