“300kmpl” Jugaad Car Launched by Engineering Students of K. J Somaiya

The second year engineering student of K.J Somaiya College had built a car that gives mileage of “300kmpl”. Named as Jugaad’13, it is said to be their official entry for an international level intercollegiate competition – going to be held at the Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lampur, organized by Shell Global.

The car is basically a single seater employed by 35cc petrol motor, which had screwed in sleepless nights of students for five months. Commenting about their efforts, Kunal Jain, the team representative said ” It feels elated and a sense of honour to be not only the first but the only team from Maharashtra. We would also like to thank Mr. Samir Somaiya who has always encouraged us and the team to broaden our horizon and take on new challenges and go beyond bookish knowledge and gain handsome experience.”

Not much known about the car yet, but the event – Shell Eco Marathon will see participation of 150 teams that are shortlisted from around 300 odd teams, where K.J Somaiya emerged as the chosen one.

Standing in the place of backbone for his whole team, Mr. Samir Somaiya, Vice President of Somaiya Vidyavihar, couldn’t hide his excitement and while spilling all the beans he said, “Our endeavor at Somaiya is to encourage our students to go beyond the classroom education and imply the knowledge to practical use. Somaiya was set up with the aim to provide value based holistic education to the youth of India,  It fills me with a great sense of pride to see that there is so much talent in our students and applaud them on the launch.”
