Women’s World Car of the Year 2013 award goes to Ford Fiesta EcoBoost

The voting is over and the judges have sealed their decision. Ford Fiesta is the ultimate winner of the ‘Women’s World Car of the year 2013’ title. This special jury consisting of various women motoring writers voted in favour of Ford Fiesta EcoBoost making it victorious. This car bagged two awards at this event. It bagged title in the Economy car category and was also voted as the “supreme car” winner.

This popular car Ford Fiesta was launched by Ford Motor Company in the year 1976. Since then it has stayed in the market and has always been tremendously popular in all of its markets. Till date Ford Fiesta has sold more than 16 million units, making it Ford’s 3rd bestselling car of all times. The present Fiesta car, is the 6th gen model that was launched in the year 2008.

Ford Fiesta EcoBoost gets its name from the EcoBoost engine that is used to power the car. This engine was launched by Ford in the year 2009 and since then has been a part of many Ford vehicles. This is a direct injected turbo charged petrol engine which offers higher displacement values and is naturally aspirated. Inspite of this, the engine is 20% more fuel efficient and the green house gas emission is 15% less. The winning car has a 1 litre EcoBoost engine that was launched in the year 2012. This engine offers an output in the range of 101 PS to 125 PS. The 2013 Facelift of Ford Fiesta has been equipped with this engine. This uses a Ti-VCT or DI turbo charged engine version. Ford Fiesta comes with 1 litre EcoBoost engines with an output of 80 PS, 100 PS or 125 PS.

Product and Communication Manager of Ford Motor Company for Asia Pacific and Africa, Craig Von Essen, said that they are very excited on receiving 2 winning titles in the same event. Expressing his joy he said that “Women pack powerful purchasing power, representing a huge market opportunity. The fact that a respected panel of published and specialist women motoring writers selected the Ford Fiesta 1.0l EcoBoost is a significant accolade as we work to design, develop and market our vehicles, technologies and services in a way that captures the attention of this very influential buying group.”

Sandy Myhre, Chief Judge from New Zealand, said that for the year 2013 the voting had been significantly different. The 3 tier voting system makes it impossible for a car to be even listed as a category finalist. It makes choosing a winner all the more difficult. As a part of the judging process, the judges had to test the 2013 car models and then had to prepare a list of short listed cars based on their own personal experience. All the short listed cars are then further sorted to give a list of the “finalists”. Then after a thorough analysis of these cars, judges finally choose the category winners. In short it can be said that the choosing criteria is highly unbiased and up to the mark.

While choosing the winner for the Women’s World car an additional preference was given to the votes that they have received through their ballot box from all over the globe by the women motorists. Sandy said that “It’s what makes these awards unique, quite apart from the fact there is no other international motoring award in the world which is voted for by women and with women in mind.”
