Apollo Tyres co-develop spoiler for Porsche 911 Turbo

Recently it has been revealed by Porsche that along with its subsidiary, Vredestein will co-develop front spoilers for the new Porsche Turbo S and the 911 Turbo models. Vredestein is actually a Dutch subsidiary of Apollo Tyres. As a result of this new partnership, Vredestein was seen to leverage the research & development centre of Apollo Tyres at Enschede. This Netherlands centre had been inaugurated in 2013 and the researches carried out are mostly related to rubber or tyres.

The “Air Master by Vredestein” blends well with the aerodynamic system of the Porsche. In order to protect this variable spoiler, both the partners have registered a series of patents. The spoiler stands because of its ability to adapt to different speeds. At high speeds, the spoiler adapts by extending on the outside, which optimizes the airflow around the wheel and hence reduces fuel consumption. At low speeds, the spoiler adapts by retracting beneath the bumper, which ensures good ground clearance.

When the car is in a performance position, the spoiler extends and creates extra downforce. This force helps the front wheel by holding to the road consistently. This special spoiler is pneumatically powered by a number of air chambers. These chambers also add to the shape of the spoiler. The expertise of Apollo Tyres was required for developing ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber. This is a special rubber with adaptability and flexibility features that perfectly match the aerodynamic requirements.
