Pierre Casiraghi to makes his race debut in Scirocco R-Cup

Pierre Casiraghi to debut as a racing driver at Hockenheim, the first race of 2014 Scirocco R-Cup from 2 to 4 May on the weekend.

After being a son of Princess Caroline of Hannover, he always had a fascination of racing. Describing it in details, Pierre said, “It has always been a dream of mine to drive in a real race. It is what every young boy dreams of. However, this is actually the first time I have ever taken my place in a professional racing car and headed out onto a real racetrack. It is a completely new experience for me.”

Pierre Casiraghi and his sailing team too set a new world record for the stretch from Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro, which demonstrates that the heir of a royal family is always willing to leave his comfort zone for gushing the adrenaline through his body.

Getting excited to grab the seat of a Volkswagen race car, Casiraghi shared his feelings, said, “I am a big Formula One fan and reckon I must have watched pretty much every Monaco Grand Prix as far back as I can remember. I have always been enthusiastic about sport and fast cars. But up until now I have never had the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat. Now that dream is finally coming true.”

“To be honest, I would be happy to complete the full race distance and bring the car back in one piece. And if I were able to overtake the odd person and cross the line anything other than last, that would obviously be a big success for me,” he added.

Racing legend Jacky Ickx (69) is the person to lend inspiration to Pierre. “Jacky helped me the entire time. We travelled to the circuit together and he explained every single corner to me. That was really very helpful for me,” said Pierre Casiraghi.

“I have known his mother, Princess Caroline, for years. His late father Stefano was also a good friend,” said Jacky Ickx. “Pierre is very ambitious when it comes to sport. He competes in sailing races and is a keen parachutist. And on top of all that, he is a really nice guy. So I said to him: Pierre, the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup would be the perfect opportunity for you to discover the world of motorsport. No sooner said than done!”

Pierre Casiraghi owns several cars: “They are almost all old though, as I am a big fan of vintage and classic cars. They are mainly Italian, including an old Fiat 500. My only modern car is an Audi RS6.” He will now handle the 285 horses the bonnet when he will seat behind the steering of the car at Cup-Scirocco.
