Porsche 911 Facelift Launching Next Year

The redesigned Porsche 991-generation 911 is all set to launch next year. As is typically the case with mid-life redesigns in the automotive world, the 2015 Porsche 911 will bring with it a selection of engine and visual enhancements, in addition to a new model, 911 GTS, set to debut too. At the front, the redesigned 911 will get slimmer LED daytime running lights and is likely to feature active front air intakes that can be opened or closed at different speeds to enhance aerodynamics.

The current Porsche 911 Carrera offers a 3.6 liter flat 6-cylinder 350HP engine, while the S comes with a larger 3.8 liter 6-cylinder 400HP powerplant. Both these powertrains will reportedly be redesigned for 2015 to comply with new European emissions regulations. The automaker is planning to redesign the 911 lineup in 2015 when they will also introduce the GTS version seen here with perhaps a naturally-aspirated 3.8 liter flat-six-cylinder engine derived from Carrera S, but uprated to generate as much as 312 kW (425 PS). Power could be sent to a four-wheel drive system through a manual transmission although this hasn’t been confirmed.

Further into the future, a plug-in hybrid Porsche 911 Turbo could be revealed with over 700 horsepower beneath the hood. Such a car would give Porsche a direct rival to the likes of Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Lamborghini Aventador.
