Toyota Fortuner 4×2 With 2.5L Engine Launched At Rs.24.44 Lakh

Shortening the engine size is another catching trend of industry, and Toyota Fortuner bears a latest instance to it. Offering a 3.0-litre diesel unit under its hood since many years, now the Japanese carmaker launched a new variant of the SUV with a ‘2.5-litre diesel’ unit.

To put down the facts precisely, smaller machine of 2494cc 4-cylinder produces 144PS of max power at 3400rpm and 343Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800rpm, as against the 171PS at 3600rpm and 343Nm between 1400-3200rpm of the 3.0-litre manual diesel (where for the automatic it goes at 360Nm).

Hence, it isn’t the engine being trimmed off the displacement, even the mightiest weight is chopped off by 150kgs comparatively to top-end AT trim, means the power to weight ratio will be enhanced comparatively. So, the pulling power wouldn’t have been hampered drastically. Only the 4×2 option is available, with no 4×4 trims offered with this 2.5-litre machine. The drivetrain sends traction to rear wheels via a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic. It is exclusive to two paint shades only: white and silver.

Looking down to the features sorted out of the list against the 3.0-litre version are HID headlamps and navigation with voice recognition. Alloy wheels, powered driver’s seat, cruise control, leather seats, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, steering-mounted controls, dual airbags, and more are standard.

The standard TRD Sportivo kit reducing the price difference between the bigger and smaller ones features dual tone front grille and bumper spoilers (front and rear both), side skirts, body stripes, rear spoiler and muffler cutter.

Terming it specifically, ‘Toyota Fortuner 2.5L TRD Sportivo 4×2’ in the manual trims comes tagged at Rs 24.44 lakh where in the automatic guise it is for Rs 25.44 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom Delhi).

With the addition of these two trims to the lineup, after including that latest 4×4 AT (automatic) trim as well, it goes to six variants.

Psst…the engine that now Fortuner is deployed with (2.5-litre) is actually borrowed from Innova but is tuned in a higher state for more horsepower.
