Ashok Leyland launched the Jan Bus in India.
Reportedly, the Jan Bus is country’s first front-engined, low-floor, bus with single step entry in operation.
Ashok Leyland confirmed to have already bagged orders for 1,600 units from state transport machinery. Deliveries of the same are said to commence from first week of June.
After the 2nd round of buses for state transport corporations under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the Jan Bus has gained the momentum in market.
Ashok Leyland said it managed to grab the orders for 60-65 percent of buses issued presently under JNNURM scheme.
At the 2013 Bus & Utility expo, the Jan Bus was featured with the reverse and interior cameras, wireless connectivity to the bus depot, GPS-assisted route guidance and automatic ticket collection. Hence, now it remains unclear that whether all these features are going to be included on the buses that are sold under the JNNURM scheme.
