GM to stop investing on Facebook ads
A recent announcement made by American automotive giant GM might change the entire social media advertisement culture. As social media is one of the most widely sourced marketing platform, world’s leading brands prefer posting ads on them rather than investing billions in brand building. However, GM has outspoken the trend and believes that Facebook ads have little impact on visitors. This news comes just before the social networking giant Facebook plans to go public. It suggests that spending billions on creating and maintaining Facebook ads and pages was pointless, as users get to pay nothing for creating FB pages and promoting the brand. The same sum could be spent around promoting the brand via other digital media. GM spokesperson said, “In terms of Facebook specifically, while we currently do not plan to continue with advertising, we remain committed to an aggressive content strategy [...]

Renault taking a cautious approach to India for its entry-level car
Renault is all set to enter the Indian market with a new entry-level car, but will choose its timing and develop a concise strategy for it. Mr. Carlos Tavares, COO, who was addressing reporters in Chennai, stated that Renault was conducting a preliminary study of the Indian market and is in no rush to launch entry-level car in India. “If things work out, India will be the preferred market to kick off the project,” revealed Tavares. According to sources, Renault is clearly targeting the big middle and high middle income segment of the Indian market and will position its early models around Rs.3 Lakhs. Tavares stated that they could possibly study manufacturing cars below the entry car strategy [...]

Mercedes Benz loses market share in India: Plans to assemble cars in the country
Mercedes Benz, the automotive luxury class manufacturer from Germany, has admitted that there has been a substantial loss in the company’s market share as far as India is concerned. Mr. Peter Honegg, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes India acknowledged that it has lost its top position and comes second to Audi in India. The leading player is BMW with a total unit sale of nearly 9,500 as compared to Mercedes Benz unit sales of approximately 7,450. Audi sales are approximately 5,500 units in the country annually. The problem attributed to the loss in market share is the government policy in high import duties when cars are directly imported. A whopping 110 percent is levied on car imports and only 30 % if cars are assembled in Indian plants. Mercedes Benz has learned its lesson and is now planning on assembling its cars at the Chakkan plant in Pune. Mr. Honegg has clearly understood [...]

2013 BMW 7-Series facelift adds few extra ponies
For over a decade, BMW has dominated the world luxury car market, though its top-end luxury models are not the favorite members in its spectacular lineup. One such model is the BMW 7 Series that has confused the automotive industry. It arguably has the best in class technology and tough German quality, but it is not quite practical as a luxury sedan. After revealing the facelift models or Life Cycle Impulses (LCI) of the X1 and X6, the next in line to join the German automaker’s 2013 LCI lineup is the BMW 7-Series. While the only changes seen on the LCI models of X1 and X6 were bolder fog lamps and revised paint job, BMW will have to chip in more for the upcoming 7-Series, as its German rival Mercedes is coming up with the next S-Class. According to BMW Blog, the subtle changes to the LCI product of 7-Series include new sound system, revised exclusive paint job and an upgraded power plant. [...]
