The new Ecosport from Ford has just been teased by the company on their Facebook page. The car is likely to go on sale once festive season begins in full flow and will see a number of minor updates which will allow it to keep on competing in the compact SUV segment.
The Euro-spec facilifted model of the EcoSport has already been seen and has a number of mechanical upgrades in addition to cosmetic changes. However, in India, mechanical updates are unlikely though there may be some tweaking in terms of engine tuning. As per the teaser, one can see the grille of the new EcoSport. The headlights also have DRL’s which make the car look even better and is one that consumers have been looking forward to for a while now. Unlike the Euro model though, the rear mounted spare wheel will continue to appear on the tailgate of the EcoSport.
The EcoSport will still be sold in three engine variants. This includes the 1.5 litre petrol and diesel engines as well as the 1-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine which has garnered many accolades already. The car is expected to be seen with the onset of the festive season and no major changes in prices are likely. The EcoSport will compete with the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and the Hyundai Creta in the compact SUV segment and with Mahindra also launching a host of new vehicles, the competition here just seems to be hotting up.
The new edition of the EcoSport has been launched by Ford for markets in India at a starting price of Rs.6.79 lakh. The new model has very few changes apart from a 10bhp increase in power which has been made on the diesel variant.
The car will continue to sell in three engine options. This includes the 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost and 1.5-litre Ti-VCT petrol engines which have not been changed. The 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine though has been tweaked to deliver 98.6bhp in terms of power as well as 205Nm in terms of torque. The transmission will continue to be available in a six speed automatic and a five speed manual option.
Another change is that a new colour option will be available on the EcoSport now. A new “Golden Brown” colour option will be available now and there will also be DRL’s available on the top end models.
According to President and Managing Director of Ford India, Nigel Harris, with more than 2,00,000 Ford EcoSport owners, Ford has managed to create the standard and is continuing to garner praise for both their value as well as quality in terms of the EcoSport. The new launch is to make the EcoSport even more irresistible during the festive season and the new features look more stylish and have added the benefit of added power to the SUV.
The Ford EcoSport has already seen a lot of success in the Indian markets but will now face tough competition following this launch.
Overall sales figures for Ford, including exports, saw a 63 per cent increase as compared to the same period last year with 22428 units being sold by the company in September 2015 as compared to 13742 units in September 2014.
As per Executive Director, Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford India, Anurag Mehrotra, the launch of the all new Figo has had a huge role to play in this jump and it part of the commitment that Ford has made towards the launch of three new cars for Indian customers by end April 2016. The company is backed by a strong vision of growth as well as great products and Ford is looking to welcome more and more customers into the company with the festive season likely to bring many new Ford members.
Domestic sales for the company in September 2015 were 8274 units as compared to 6786 units in the same period last year. This will mean a 22 per cent hike in Ford vehicle sales. Exports too have seen a 103 per cent increase with 14154 units being sold this year in September as compared to 6956 in September 2014.
Ford India has seen a stable growth in terms of sales for the past few months owing to a good line up of cars from the company presently. The Figo introduction has helped in increasing sales even further and with the new launches promised, the company is expected to grow even higher.
Barely a month after the introduction of the Figo Aspire Compact Sedan, the company has now launched the hatchback version of the car as the all new Ford FIgo. Price of the new hatchback begins at Rs.4.29 lakh for the base petrol model and goes up to Rs.7.4 lakh for the top end model. The car looks much improved and raring to go.
Powered by either a 1.5-litre petrol, 1.2-litre petrol or a 1.5-litre diesel engine, the Figo will come in three different engine options. The diesel version will have a 1.5-litre TDCi powertrain delivering 100bhp in terms of max power as well as 215Nm of peak torque. The 1.2 litre TiVCT petrol engine will have 88bhp of peak power and 112Nm of peak torque, while the 1.5-litre TiVCT petrol mill will deliver 112bhp of max power as well as 136Nm of max torque. The first two will have a five-speed manual transmission while the latter will see a six-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
The car is to be exported to as many as 50 markets apart from being sold in India and is the only hatchback in the country which will have six airbags for the top of the line model. The Figo will be competing with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Maruti Suzuki Swift in markets here and will look to establish itself as a leading hatchback.
Delhi ex-showroom prices for the car are as below:
Ford has finally revealed details about the next generation Figo, which is the follow up to the company’s most successful hatchback in India.
The car looks exactly the same in terms of the exterior and design as the compact sedan and has a trapezoid grille as well as swept back headlights and power lines on the bonnet.
The rear also has wrap around tail lamps and what looks like a fairly narrow opening. The rear looks quite sporty though and the sides have flared wheel arches and a strong shoulder line which add to the muscular looking nature of the car.
In terms of engine options, the Figo hatchback will have three mills. Firstly is a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol as well as a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine will deliver about 87bhp in terms of power while the diesel will have 99bhp output making it quite a power machine. The best though will be the 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol which will come mated to a six speed dual clutch AT and will produce a massive 110bhp of power along with 136Nm of torque.
The car is also expected to be a leader in terms of safety features with the inclusion of six airbags as well as ESP, hill assist and a perimeter alarm system.
The Ford Figo is likely to be priced between Rs.4.69 lakh to Rs.7.50 lakh and will take on the Swift, Grand i10, Bolt and the Brio.
The Focus RS looks to bring what is regarded as a legendary nameplate to a new generation of customers and will look to deliver innovative technology as well as stunning performance at a price that will come as a pleasant surprise to many. This is how the top management at Ford is looking at this release.
The car comes with a 2.3-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine that delivers a great 350PS in terms of power as well as 440Nm in terms of torque. It also has an overboost mode that allows it to deliver 470Nm of torque for about 15 seconds, making this the fastest and most powerful Focus RS to date.
In addition to this, it will also be the first Focus RS which will have an All Wheel Drive (AWD) system, which runs on twin electronically controlled clutch packs and can control the side to side torque distribution as well. The car has been calibrated alongside the advanced electronic stability control and is likely to not only deliver the goods in terms of power but in terms of control as well.
The Ford EcoSport has been hugely successful in India since its launch and will now be seen minus a rear mounted spare wheel for the first time. The design change will be made on the EcoSport that is for the European spec while in the Indian version the car will continue to have a rear end spare wheel.
However, this is not the only design revision in the car. As per Ford, they have helped reduce noise harshness and vibration in the car and have added thicker and better sound dissolving inputs in the dashboard as well as the doors of the car. The driving dynamics too is expected to see a definite jump with a stiffer rear torsion beam as well as slightly lower ride height and revised damping.
Coming to the big change though, Ford claims that the rear mounted spare has been done away with in order to give easier access to the boot space and the car has a new rear bumper as well. A new light dimming function has been added to the car as well and the chrome surround rings add to the overall elegance of the compact SUV.
This though, is only a smaller announcement. Ford is going to give us a full lowdown on the new and improved EcoSport at the Frankfurt Motor Show so you can be guaranteed that the company has big surprises up its sleeve for both the Indian as well as International market.
After stopping the production of the Figo hatch, Ford now seems to have done the same with the Fiesta sedan. No Fiesta has been produced in July as well and by all accounts, this trend will continue in the future as well.
The Fiesta as a car never really took off in the Indian market. Even though it had a pretty competitive price tag attached to it, car buyers in India never took any serious interest in it. And it is quite evident from the figures. According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturer (SIAM), Ford was able to sell 289 units of the car (both the new and old Fiesta combined) during the first quarter of this fiscal, compared to 1850 units it sold during the same period last year. Total sales of the Fiesta from April to July in this fiscal stands at an all time low of 303 units.
Keeping this figures in mind, Ford decided to stop production of the Fiesta in May earlier this year. But all is not lost as far as the Fiesta is concerned. As reports suggests, Ford is actually planning to have a second go with the Fiesta in India by launching a facelifted version of the car in the coming days. Rumours have it that the facelifted Fiesta could be fitted with a new and more powerful engine. It’s only in the near future we would get to know for sure if this rumours hold any water or not.
As we had reported earlier, Ford has launched its Figo Aspire sedan in India at a starting price of Rs.4.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The car will be made available in both petrol and diesel versions totaling in four different trim levels – Trend, Ambiente, Titanium and Titanium Plus.
As far as engines are concerned, the petrol Aspire will come powered by a 1.2-liter 67bhp engine, while the diesel variant will be powered by a 99bhp 1.5-liter TDCi turbocharged engine. Peak torque figures for petrol and diesel engines are 112Nm and 215Nm. Here we would like to inform you that the diesel engine fitted in the Aspire is so far the most powerful engine in this segment. Both the engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. But an even more powerful 1.5-liter petrol will be made available with segment topping power and torque of 110bhp and 136Nm. This car will have a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
As far as mileage figures is concerned, the petrol Aspire can hop for 18.16km on every liter of fuel, while the figure is 25.83kmpl for the diesel car. Mileage for the 1.5-liter petrol stands at 17kmpl.
The Ford Aspire will fight for market space against the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire, Tata Zest etc.

According to news reports on the web, Ford India has stopped production of its Figo hatchback in the Indian market. The reason for this decision seems to be the continuous drop in Figo sales over the past few years. In July this year, the company was able to sell only 463 units of the car in India.
Ford will now replace the Figo hatchback with the Figo Aspire compact sedan and the new 2015 Figo hatchback which will be launched sometime later this year. The Figo Aspire sedan will hit the Indian market just 5 days from now on August 12th.
The new Figo hatchback and the Aspire sedan will have many similarities. For instance, the hatchback will be powered by the same 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 86.76bhp of peak power and a 112Nm of peak torque as well as the 1.5-liter diesel that produces 98bhp of peak power and 215Nm of peak torque. Both the engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Apart from these both the cars will share many styling and design similarities as well.
