India Made Ford Ecosport Special Edition Launched In Japan

Apparently, the factory producing Ford EcoSport in India seems to be running double the capacity to reduce burden of waiting period for that compact SUV. It turned out surprising to see that the same manufacturing bay got so relevant time to produce 70 odd limited edition units for Japan.

Yes, made in India exported to Japan, Ford EcoSport’s 70 units run limited model gears a price tag of 2,530,000 Yen (approximately Rs 13.32 lakhs) for a new lineup of paint shade and some additional features. Naming them, it could appear the leather seats, dual airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, traction control, SYNC support and ultimately the 6-spealer entertainment system. Based on Titanium trim, it measures 4195mm in length (appealingly longer than the India-spec EcoSport), 1765 mm in width, and 1655mm in height. The special job can be easily earned the distinct brownie points with the six different colours of mirrors and rear spare wheel.

Hence, there are no such reports for India of receiving a limited edition anytime soon, whereas markets like Brazil and Thailand had already gained number of those adornments. Well, now it is also reported the European version in the facelift of 2015 will be shaved off the spare wheel. However, the car is a fine example of breaking ice with hatchbacks for the Indian market and even around the world. Manufacturing benefits for India had given the audience to enjoy EcoSport at a low cost, as it is been exported to a number of markets from here, that’s how the Japan and other are seeing it with limited editions to keep pepping the sales figure.

Worst Selling Cars Of 2014

It’s not only the best that had made to our desk; instead, we even looked out for the worst selling cars of 2014. Before concluding anything right now, it better to scroll down the list and see the list directly itself.

1.Nissan Teana – 15 units

The lack of petrol engines and a very pricey attitude made it to sell the least number of cars throughout the year. Even it is been removed from the company’s official website which means the brand is discontinued in India. After all importing as a CBU (completely built units) hadn’t served well to a number of carmakers in the long run due to the swanky rate of duties imposed.

Nissan Teana

2.Toyota Landcruiser – 40 units

Toyota Landcruiser too faces the similar condition of turning huge price tags with the excessive duties as being imported on CBUs. After all, for that price tag, there are lots of options available in India where the glitzy automakers like Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, BMW and Volvo had enough to attract the buyers in terms of niche SUVs.

Toyota Land cruiser

3.Toyota Prado – 51 units

Prado received a facelift in the last days of 2013, which almost can be said as 2014, but still it didn’t helped it either to cruise further in the market scenario. Likely to its sibling, it didn’t manage to become an exception from the clutches of typical Indian buying perception.

Toyota Prado

4.Chevrolet Captiva – 63 units

Chevrolet Captiva is altogether the same old story that this bowtie logoed carmaker had continued even after giving it the much needed facelift during 2013. Yet, no better results emerged, but still the automaker feels the SUV holds that loophole of the lineup very well. In fact it’s just the market which isn’t working in the favour of this entire segment.

Chevrolet Captiva

5.Hyundai Sonata – 97 units

For the past many years, seems the full-size sedans from the maker other than Germans had seen a dip, due to the reason buyers can go for those upmarket options, or can even see to the SUV in the category. For the same reason Honda too discontinued the Accord, but still Hyundai had kept selling its ‘Sonata’ only with the ‘petrol’ engine.

Hyundai Sonata

6.Skoda Yeti – 123 units

The launch of Skoda Yeti facelift had wished the industry the new compact SUV/crossover is still not in the competitive league of the segment. In fact, the officials too confirmed it of staying for the niche and not to be sold in whopping numbers like others. There seemed, the Czech based carmaker had achieved its goal as rolling out only 123 examples of it in 2014.

Skoda Yeti

7.Renault Koleos – 148 units

Renault Koleos is just another name in the SUV category of India which is striving hard to sell a number of it. The most anticipated facelift received in 2014 sunken the hope once again. Well, it is a matter of the market buying scenario compelling the automakers to post such numbers out of the slot.

Renault Koleos

8.Ford Endeavour – 222 units

Despite failed to lure numbers this year, Ford Endevaour’s ‘facelift’ have worked for it, with almost 222 units sold, the max against the rest in this list of the particular segment. However, must admit, Ford Endeavour is a best choice amongst Indians after the Toyota Fortuner. A new one in the pipeline may churn fortunes for its maker when rolled out.

Ford Endeavour

9.Renault Fluence – 306 units

The earlier face of Fluence blunted the edge of this sedan to sell well even with the facelift of 2014. The previous model was a mix match of some designers, which we guess would have been better by the French only. Right now, the most exciting car of Renault repertoire in the segment, Fluence, needed to work a bit harder to get the things straight in its line with regards to the marketing and some of its cabin glitches.

Renault Fluence

10.Nissan Evalia – 484 units

Nissan itself is in the dilemma of what is not selling Evalia despite giving it a facelift even at the earliest after its launch in India. But the reason couldn’t be figured out. And that’s the reason, why after being a product for the masses it falls on this list with number lesser than 500 units. There seemed the fleet owners too are disappointed serving it to their clienteles. Hence, India isn’t as same as China where legroom will work. Here, the audience do look for an impressing driveability, after all the buyers here are young and prefer driving themselves, unlike to those getting driven at rear seats for the most.

Nissan Evalia

Overview

The year 2014 had remained a year for the categories under Rs 14 lakh category. There aren’t many of them making a good sale above the said price band. Nowadays, high maintenance cost don’t go well with buyers of Mercedes, Audi or BMW, then how it could settle down here with the not-so premium buys. Looking down to all of them, the major reason of failure was the running and maintenance cost (except Evalia) after the over pricing strategy.

Six out of ten are the SUVs. And the only mass segment player here is Nissan Evalia.

Renault, Nissan, Toyota, all Japanese carmakers and had couple of examples each in the list.

Renault: Fluence and Koleos; Nissan: Teana and Evalia; Toyota – Prado and Landcruiser.

Important Note

As everything has its own pros and cons, the benefit with the worst selling cars is they give you exclusivity over the others. And everyone in locality recollects the owners seeing that rare species. So, let anyone speak whatever they want about the car, you enjoy a standing out status from the whole crowd of own a one from the above list!

Vijaywada Police Receives Ford EcoSport

Who says Indian Police aren’t modernized. Though, the claim can prove right for the reason they still use old arms and ammunitions, but liberty of getting new vehicles over a certain duration has led them enjoy a slice of life. Reportedly, this time its Vijaywada Police force who will soon get the EcoSport in their fleet.

Factually speaking, we didn’t knew how soon they may see it coming, but surely, amongst the 200 cars ordered by Andhra Pradesh government that included Tata Sumo and Toyota Innova, Ford’s compact SUV will smell the fresh paints of department.

However, the sub-four meter length of EcoSport will help the department to gain a bargaining deal, and it would be a diesel engine supplying the power.

The second lowest variant the Ambiente trim has been preferred by the officials that come with a 1.5-litre diesel unit sending the power of 91PS and 204Nm of torque.

Vijaywada Police Receives Ford EcoSport

Hence, to balance the equation for those who cannot swallow down their throat such a premium car for the police department; it isn’t adorable when Police of Modiji’s state use those impractical Harley cruisers to escort convoys of VIPs. Appropriately, EcoSport is still a usable option of serving the purpose.

After all, India does seemed getting on the league of Dubai where they own the world’s fastest car Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, even the limited Aston Martin One-77 and lot more powerful machine.

Top 10 Most Fuel-Efficient Cars Of 2014

“Kitna deti hai?” the famous question asked by every Indian whoever visits a car showroom. It is obvious the cars in India are still a ‘status quo’, whether it is an Alto or a Merc. For very few of them it serves as the utilitarian purpose, where if worked out the ratio then it would be near to 20-30 percent of car buyers. However, the auto industry is thriving on such luxurious notations. For a more drastic example, a German automaker, which we didn’t wish to name, is suffering huge losses of entering the Indian market for the reason its cars fails to deliver that fuel-economy which the competitors are giving away. Despite numerous efforts tried, still that performance of the fuel-economy isn’t scored. In short, though how best engineering you had, it’s the fuel-consumption that almost makes the buying decisions. The scenario in 2014 had changed drastically, where earlier the Indian automakers used to rule the domain for the fuel-economy got taken over by the international automaker that also offers the best of engineering, low maintenance cost, and at the end of day they had strike the best efficiency amongst the segment rivals. Maruti Ciaz Diesel

Maruti’s long lost fight for the sedan segment got into action once again, and it’s the Ciaz as a warrior for this battle. However, the company used all the tricks and treats to please buyers with the design and features on-board. Incidentally, it also managed to boast the fuel-efficiency to 26.21kmpl (as per ARAI) from the diesel engine of 1248 cc, which has thrown it on the number one slot of this countdown by dethroning the Honda City diesel to second.

Maruti Ciaz Diesel

Honda City Diesel

The new Honda City was in the whir of industry to be delivering that same wide grin on its buyers face even with the diesel. And that’s simply delivered! To know in detail, this Japanese made sedan, which costs quite heftily than the rest in its class, now with the diesel is selling in whopping numbers than that of petrol just for delivering 26kmpl out of the newly made 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine.

Chevrolet Beat Facelift Diesel

Chevrolet Beat Diesel remained an outstanding performer throughout, and a mild facelift received added some years of lease to the life. That cutesy small nose on front with the bowtie logo hides a notorious 936cc three-cylinder engine, which returns 25.44kmpl. It is one of the smallest diesel cars in India priced efficiently since the launch.

Tata Nano Twist

Tata’s most of the aspirations go with Nano. The power steering that is a mandatory feature these days was planted on the Nano with ‘Twist’. None other cooler twist than the said, Nano Twist managed to deliver 25.4kmpl from the 625cc ‘petrol’ engine.

New Ford Fiesta

Ford‘s aggression after the EcoSport was observed to be settled in a cold low. But our speculations got wrong when the automaker launched new Fiesta with the fresh front grille and an outstanding fuel-economy of 25.01kmpl for the diesel buyers. The changes made are quite generous in nature but not so great in numbers. However, we liked that Aston-Martin-ish front grille which makes the sedan more dominating.

Fuel-efficiency: 25.01kmpl (as per ARAI)

New Ford Fiesta

Hyundai Xcent Diesel

The Hyundai compact sedan made a late entry to the party, but though it still had its claim of delivering the 24.4kmpl from a 1.1-litre diesel engine. Number of segment’s first features and the fluidic designing makes it to shine out of the crowd.

As Honda has launched its Amaze quite earlier, that still boasts better fuel-economy than Hyundai…said in case to clear the conflict between both the carmakers.

Fuel-efficiency: 24.4kmpl (as per ARAI)

Hyundai Xcent Diesel

Honda Mobilio Diesel

Honda’s venture in the MPV market was recorded by the Mobilio which can be said as the most needed car for this segment. That same 1.5-litre diesel engine of the Amaze and City also churns the fortune here for its maker by striking 24.2kmpl as per ARAI. The seven-seater and yet compact to be tweezed easily into the tight corners, has made the Mobilio to do better in terms of sales. Even the pricing is worked out rightly against the rivals, also striking the rivalry chords against different segments with regards to its ‘multi-utilitarian’ appeal.

Maruti Alto K10

Maruti Alto – addressed as one of the world’s highest selling car – now received facelift in India and also the option of AMT gearbox making it to be the cheapest automatic car of this country. A new front grille with bolder profile, and some minute but significant changes inside the cabin, makes up the Alto facelift. The fuel efficiency of 24.07kmpl has remained one of the eye-catchers on the specification list despite being gunned with the benefit of AMT.

Toyota Etios Facelift Diesel

The facelift launch of Toyota Etios gave the car a push for the years to come before ending its life-cycle. However, the facelift isn’t remarkable, but its 1.4-litre diesel engine is good enough to clock 23.59kmpl. Hence, it must now do rightly against the rival to make a better cut above the rest and shall peak the sales like MPV Innova is performing in its repertoire.

Fuel-efficiency: 23.59kmpl (as per ARAI)

Maruti Swift Facelift Diesel

Maruti Swift being celebrated as India’s most sold premium hatchback, and also one of the admirable cars after the Hyundai Elite i20. At the fuel-efficiency, it is claimed to attain 23.04kmpl as per ARAI.  The 1.3-litre diesel engine sourced by Fiat (Multijet) contributed a lot to make it a most successful product of the carmaker. In order to see through a better perception, Swift facelift is the highest fuel-economy achiever amongst its segment which too got a revamp or a facelift recently. Hope so, the Swift lovers now relished one more reason to rejoice.

Supercar Launches In India For 2015

It is been still uncommon to dot a sports car on the roads of India. But various automakers are dying hard to make that scenario change. Certainly, to an extent they have succeeded in doing so for past some years. Mentioned here are the upcoming supercars that are bound for the Indian market in 2015. Read on to hit that throttling extravaganza…

DC Avanti

The aftermarket designer is now bound to turn into a full-fledged carmaker. Reportedly, with the launch of Avanti, DC will strive hard make the most of it for offering a kick of sports at the cost of a full-size sedan just at Rs 25 lakh. The petrol engine of 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged power out the hell of 248bhp along with 241Nm to rear wheels via-speed manual transmission. The last time when it was seen wasn’t production ready, but the sources said Avanti to be pulled like a true sports car and would feature luxurious gimmicks inside like a touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument panel and lots more. So, on an account, the buyers will not be laid out to complain even after buying a sports car at the fractional cost of those German and Italian super-machines.

DC Avanti

New Audi TT

Audi’s league of projecting itself as a lifestyle automaker, the new TT that made debut in international market sometimes back will make way to our shores for no lesser than Rs 6 million apparently in the guises of coupe and convertible both. In the engine bay, company offers three options to choose from, TT, TT Diesel and a sportier TT-S. For the petrol, there is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine churning out 230bhp, whereas the same in TT-S makes a whopping 310bhp. The diesel engine of the same specifications as of petrol delivers 184bhp. All the traction is sent through the 6-speed DSG gearbox, whereas someone addicted to manual for that raw feel will now not be disappointed as well. Comparing the older and newer version of TT, the platform pinned under is all new Volkswagen’s MQB weighing lighter; and even the interiors also see fresh excitement.

BMW i8

The ‘I’ that awed entire world when it got assimilated with ‘8’ at the bay of BMW, will be storming the roads of India by 2015 for an expected price of Rs 1.5 crore. Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine for 234bhp and 320Nm it also takes on the power from a 7.2 kWh lithium-ion electric motor sending an additional 131bhp of power to both the axles at front and rear. As after getting behind the steering, it can be claimed, BMW this time hadn’t made a proper racetrack car, but designers had done what others may not have thought of. To say that precisely, i8 is like driving a concept car which wows every eyeball on the street and has enough power to go as fast as 4.4 seconds from 0-100km/h without any insanity to a decent top-speed of 250kmph.

BMW i8

Mercedes AMG GT

The aggressive nature of AMG in India had led us to believe that AMG GT will be launched as well. In fact, the success of SLS AMG had laid the way for AMG GT towards a lucrative ground for a handsome package of more than Rs 2 crore. Driving it on the practical roads of India may sound troublesome due to the low ground clearance. But since India is getting an increased ride height with all the cars (even with the low slung Lamborghini), and if this one too given a perched treatment, then models like F-Type will see a serious competition here. Power is sent from a newly developed 4.0-liter V-8 bi-turbo unit which develops power of 456bhp and 600 Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox for the standard variant. All these technicalities throw the GT from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds. And if that wasn’t enough to satisfy the hunger, then GT ‘S’ trim is also on the list that performs for a good 503bhp and 649Nm torque with 0-100km/h coming up in lesser than 3.7 seconds.

Mercedes AMG GT

Ford Mustang

Ford’s expanding vision towards Asia has led many countries to dream about Mustang, and especially the right hand drive countries are on the spearhead this time. Out of that cluster India is a one to receive that beloved Mustang, which may be priced at somewhere near to Rs 4 to 5 million.

However, American muscle cars are famous around the world, and Mustang being the favourite amongst them. As the price tag is slightly above the line for many to reach there, but since it will be imported as CBU (completely built units) the import duties are plays spoilsport here. Above all, it is a practical road car that does also leads in power, which means altogether a new kind of fun is awaited. And that GT version will definitely hit the nail right on its head for the Indian buyers for being spacious and beasty on power if launched.

Ford Mustang

Note it down, Ford Mustang comes in three engine options: 3.7-litre V6, 5.0-litre Mustang GT and the most powerful that we were talking about Shelby GT500 comes strapped by a 5.8-litre supercharged V8.

Mitsubishi Pajero Automatic vs Toyota Fortuner vs Ford Endeavour vs New Santa Fe: Spec Comparison

Big SUVs, more popular as full-size SUVs, possess less utilitarian and more show-off appeal after ideally maligning in comparison to the road conditions of India. But however, since they have developed a taste of the most powerful machine the money can buy for cost of a D-segment sedan, they (SUVs) also galore a ‘take me anywhere’ feel out on the road. In addition, over the mindset of most car buyers in India, who are quite young, believes driving the SUV makes them feel better rather than sitting snug behind the steering of a sedan on the tarmac. As every second meter stretch of the road is riddled with crater-type potholes and speed-breakers touching the belly of sedan relenting it to suffer bruises and a hefty service bill for owners, driving a sedan also sound a bit tad and impractical.

In order, India has always remained invaded by one or the other forces, so people of the nation are more of the preference to avoid them by using an invading machine (SUV) itself that mimics a brave attitude and stud accents of our way of living. Hence, the said has craved as a major reason for the makers to be striking chunk of sales from the SUV body-type in this market. After the recent launch of Mitsubishi Pajero automatic for the price of Rs 23.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) the business became a bit tough for existing players of diesel automatic SUVs in 4×2 like, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Mitsubishi Pajero Automatic vs Toyota Fortuner vs Ford Endeavour vs New Santa Fe: Spec Comparison

Engine

Nothing can better grunt-ify the rival than its powerful machine. The biggest in size – Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner – are strapped by the 3.0-litre unit, but both of them produces the least amount of power (in comparison) at 154bhp (379Nm) and 169bhp (360Nm) respectively. The smallest Hyundai Santa Fe’s 2.2-litre units milk the maximum at 194bhp and 436Nm of torque. Amidst of all, Pajero’s 2.5-litre is good enough for 176bhp and 350Nm.

In the gauge of transmission, all the SUVs are mated to a 5-speed automatic, where only Hyundai makes an exception with the 6-speed automatic.

Dimension

Measuring them from all the angles, Endeavour surprisingly comes up with the maximum space between the front and rear wheels – wheelbase, as well as the overall length. However, all of them are more or less similar in the sizing, but the long length of Ford’s SUV makes ample of space for the rear passengers and luggage.

Overview

The max power of Santa Fe offers on-paper the speediest deal, whereas the Pajero isn’t bad either. With acres of spaces, sluggish Endeavour is designed to carry the maximum luggage and additional comfort for rear passengers. But as said in the start, the looks is what matters for the show-off SUVs appeal, Fortuner and Endeavour emerge as the best options to choose from. And they spruce commanding visuals with their beefy tyres. The remaining two offset them by overcoming on the power and handling aspect a lot.

So the choice is a bit precise, either to go for the hard-core off-road with chunks of metals, or just ply the tarmac easy for the most with the racy experience behind steering wheel.

New Maruti Compact SUV Spied Testing

Maruti compact SUV, internally codenamed as YBA, is spied for the first time in production-ready avatar.

The vehicle poses to be a direct rival of Ford EcoSport and its likes. The source even claimed it as possessing spare wheel at the rear. Design is clear-cut resembling to the Suzuki iV-4 concept unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013, which too has spawned into the Vitara. The floating roofline and rising waistline mimics the Swift hatchback, as that was easy for Maruti to cash upon the most-selling hatchback for regaining the lost ground. And the grille at front is even subtlety placed as against the aggressive vertical design of concept.

Angular headlamps on the front fascia are a bit new to the family, but raked windscreen and everything else is carried over from the Swift and whereas some from the upcoming premium new hatchback codenamed ‘YRA’.
