Many of the reports have pointed out what Skoda India has in mind for the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The Czech company is expected to launch the new Yeti and the Superb facelift. Though the Superb facelift had been unveiled in Europe last year, the new Superb will make its debut at the Delhi Motor Show in India this year. The deliveries and sales of the car are scheduled to commence by mid 2014.
In order to spread word about the car in the market before it is unveiled, Skoda has been teasing car enthusiasts with the Superb facelift on the social media. As per the reports, it is also said that the company will be announcing the price of the car at the event itself. The car features quite a lot of notable changes. The refreshed Superb at the front will get new headlamps, fog lights, updated front bumpers and redesigned grille. The headlamps have been integrated LED daytime running lights.
While there are a number of changes in the front itself, the rear end of the car will feature redesigned tail lights with the license plate being incorporated on the bootlid. The engine of the car is said to remain the same as the previous model, as it will be offered either with the 2.0-litre TDI motor or the 1.8-litre TSI engine. At the moment there is not much information available about the car as Skoda is just trying to create a buzz in the market before it is launched.
Skoda is quite delighted with the new product launches over various markets and, some aggressive sales plans for the near future. To beef up its lineup further, the Czech based carmaker is now confirmed of going the coupe way with the new Octavia (in conceptual form) by next Geneva Auto Show.
There is ample of time for the carmaker to work on, while only a thin layer of information is been landed on the reporting-dial. It is reported to be based on four-door coupe version, and the Volkswagen’s modular MQB platform to be riding underneath it. Octavia’s bold triangular LED headlamps and similarly-shaped tail lamps, alongside its sophisticated creases across the body with the low roofline, which earlier too resembled like a coupe, is expectedly asked do the job for new Octavia to go seamless into a coupe variant. Large wheels to just finish off the tint of regarded look, left by the other tweaks.
Engine specification to be varied in between 1.4L TSI and 2.0L turbodiesel worth of 140hp and 150hp respectively. The option of manual and an automatic gearbox will also be there to choose from.
While a range-topping vRS-variant said to arrive later on the paddock at a further part of the plan, along with a GTI-borrowed 2.0L four-cylinder of 220hp. A diesel engine of 2.0L (TDI) with 184hp engine will beef up the lineup with leaving no gap empty for competitors to barge upon.
The launch of new Skoda Octavia may have shaken up the competitors, but would it go such extreme with its in-house sibling may have not been thought of by us. The launch of new Octavia has discontinued the sale of Laura in India. And company is no longer selling the car in our country. The official Indian website of Skoda too removed the particular model plate from the list.
It seems that Czech-based carmaker have sold all the units of old-Octavia and the Laura so that its new car may be sold in numbers at least for present. The plans of the automaker is also been expected that a new Laura to be rolled out at a near future, because the phased out model was doing its job in India since long back and was also finding itself a bit old as compared to the competitors.
Laura was available in India in petrol as well diesel guise. The 1.8L TFSI and 2.0L TDI were been found under its hoods. Laura was priced at Rs. 14.55 lakh for entry level, the top-end costs at Rs. 19.27 lakh.
Skoda traveled the paths of sophistication with a number of badges in sedan repertoire, but the off-road is been remained an exception for the Caezh based carmaker always. However, only handfuls are there to name for the Skoda off-roader in global markets at present, Yeti and Fabia Scout are the most popular ones from stable of Volkswagen owned automaker.
Appropriate to the expectations, a report on internet revealed that Skoda is planning an Octavia Scout for launching it in Europe by August 2014. It will be dwelled with some off-road looks, by means of new front and rear bumpers, unpainted wheel arch, 20mm raised height, and more off-road aesthetical jargons. By the time we assume that engine specifications would remain the same as of it is present there in sedan version, which the report claimed that all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive, both the options will be made available in the market when it will be rolled out.
To an addition, Skoda has is reported to be rolling out an luxury version of Octavia dubbed as ‘Laurin & Klement edition’ soon. It is said to be having the xenon headlights, LED tail lamps, 18-inch alloys to mark the exclusive notes on exteriors. On interiors, the leather seats with wood accent and chrome trim running across the cabin will delish the whole package. New dashboard and revamped speed dials is said to be just added as the icing on assorted German cake.
Skoda revealed of revamping all its 5,300 dealerships throughout the globe. It has said to be implementing all new language of design in all its outlets.
Skoda has recently given the new looks to most of its model plates. And now the news came that all its dealerships are going under knife for the change. It seems that Czech based carmaker is on the spree of hunting as many ducks as possible with its all new stoning strategy.
“Simply clever – clever engineering with a human touch” is the motto which Skoda is said to follow in the dealerships revamp. They have said 2015 will see the most of dealerships in all new avatar.
Architectural department of the brand will be dwelling the entire bay in drape of pristine white and green paint shade, with cozying interiors to match the tranquility. A new Skoda logo will be tapped on the side of building, and the building will also have a shade of grey running on the backs. New pylons and flags will be stacked on the outer for confirming the last stage or branding decoration. Meanwhile, the car-making organization will extensively use the glass on front to take an immense advantage of the sunlight. “Customers should be able to identify the Škoda partner as such at first glance,” said Škoda board member for sales & marketing, Werner Eichhorn. The new design attitude of Skoda, which is a part of 2018 Skoda’s growth plan, will have the reflection of its image flashing during day as well night.
Skoda has explained that sales as per 2018 Skoda growth strategy on global platform will be notched to more than 1.5 units million per year.
Skoda India ties up with the Gurgaon Rapid Metro with an innovative marketing initiative. For the first time, the entire train on the Gurgaon Metro line will be branded with the Rapid model line from Skoda Auto India. The collaboration was a natural fit as the Gurgoan metro line also bears the ‘Rapid’ name which coincides with the product ‘Rapid’ from Skoda Auto India. It also happens to be the first time the entire metro line is branded by a single product. The metro moves around the Corporate Hubs like DLF cyber city and Unitech corporate parks which is a catchment zone for Skoda’s target audience.
Commenting on this innovative approach, Mr. Kamal Basu – Marketing Director, ŠKODA Auto India said, “The association was based on our brand philosophy of being SIMPLY CLEVER, It was an opportunity for Skoda to take up this property as the metro was named after one of our carline ‘Rapid’. Gurgaon being one of the important market for us this association helps in increasing brand awareness as we reach out to 6 to 7 lacs of our audience every day. Apart from this, the Rapid Metro branding is also visible from Delhi – Jaipur highway which has a daily traffic of approx. 1 lac vehicles”
This a 3 month collaboration and Skoda will look to extend it depending on the response from this initiative. The Rapid is Skoda entry level sedan, by the brand. Since its launch in late 2011, Skoda has sold over 35,000 Rapids, making it one of the most successful cars for the brand. The Rapid is available at all Skoda showrooms across India and in Gurgaon it starts at Rs 7.16 Lakhs (ex-showroom Gurgaon).
Third-gen 2013 Skoda Octavia 1.8 ‘Ambition’ launched in India with a starting price tag of Rs. 16.85 lakh ex showroom Mumbai.
Hence, the 2013 Octavia launched in India some days back with an starting price tag of Rs. 13.95 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, for the starting variant called 1.4 TSI (petrol) Active. Taking a look at the whole range made available we noticed that 1.8 Ambition (Petrol) was missing and the demanding market scenario here seems to have challenged the Czech carmaker to fill in the gap silently.
Hopefully, the 1.8 TSI was available in Elegance only, costing near to Rs. 2 lakh more than the rolled out version. The new car of 1.8 now loses some whistles and bells to justify the price tag right for organization.
LED daytime running lamps, Xenons (which are now replaced with halogens), headlight washer, front parking sensors, side and curtain airbags, panoramic sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control and memory settings for the wing mirrors, are the tweaks that has been shredded to conclude the Octavia 1.8 Ambition of Skoda.
One too can check the price list of 2013 Skoda Octavia at the time of launch ex-showroom Delhi (excluding 1.8 Ambition):

Festive season of 2013 hasn’t brought new to the fortunes of Skoda Fabia, but the old tricks of hefty discounts and such seems lugging around the hatchback of Czech based carmaker throughout the time.
However, it remained uncommented what will be the next attempt on Skoda’s chart to fructify the flow of Fabia in the showroom, but then finally organization thought of giving the vehicle a mild change on the cosmetic front for doing its job blissfully.
Need not to jump with joy, the Fabia’s recent makeover is ‘mild’ in nature, and nothing is changed on the exterior of vehicle. Changes made to it reflect only on interiors. And one needs to have eagle’s eyes to address the changes noticeably. For the convenience, we have posted comparative images of the new and old Fabia so that viewers must not face the hassles. Confirming them, mentioned below are all of the tweaks that the vehicle possess:
- New steering wheel with revised Skoda badge
- Revised AC controls
- New gear shifter
However, the Fabia sports Volkswagen Polo platform underneath, and comes with two and three cylinder engine options: a 1.2 liter MPI petrol engine and a 1.2 liter TDI turbo diesel engine. A 1.6 liter-4 cylinder MPI petrol engine also makes to its list.
But let us inform, production of Fabia is been ceased, and the cars are still available in dealerships on “heavy discounts”. One who aspire for the brands of Volkswagen and are in need of buying a fancy hatchback, then this mini Skoda is just a perfect choice. However, it’s another side of the coin that Skoda badge is much popular for the high maintenance costs and anemic petrol and turbo diesel engines. Well, if anyone who is willing to overlook such thoughts, then they must head to the showrooms without wasting a minute!
