Facelifted Skoda Yeti revealed

We reported earlier as well that all the leading car manufacturers in the world are preparing themselves for the mega event of the year. I am talking about the biggest auto event in the world, Frankfurt Motor Show. A lot of things have been planned for this 12 day event. A number of cars will be unveiled and concepts will be presented. Be it the BMW’s i3 and i8 or Honda’s Civic Tourer, a lot of new faces will be welcoming you at the show. Now it has been revealed that Skoda too has a facelift to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This much anticipated car is the Skoda Yeti. Two variants of the Yeti will be displayed at the vent beginning from 10th of September.

Skoda Yeti is a 5-seater compact SUV manufactured by Skoda Auto since May 2009. The car was introduced in March 2009 at Geneva Motor Show. Yeti marked the entry of Skoda auto into the SUV segment. Skoda Yeti is sold in European nations in 3 variants which are called as Ambition, Experience and Track. In United Kingdom it is available in 5 variants which are designated as S, E, SE, SE plus and Elegance. Yeti is available in India in 3 variants which are Elegance, Active and Ambition. The car has been extremely successful since its launch and the company sold its 100,000th Yeti in the year 2011. The car has received many prestigious awards till date, like the “Best car of the year” in 2009 and “Best European car of the year” in 2010 etc.

The new Yeti will be endorsing a redesigned front as well as rear. Talking about the car front, it now exhibits a design language which is observed in newer models from Skoda namely Octavia, Superb and Rapid. The front fascia now endorses a more angular look, a new Skoda signature styled grille with the company’s new logo which was revealed, in India, earlier with the launch of Octavia. The front also has new almost square shaped headlights. The round fog lamps have been eliminated from the new model. The front bumper and chin along with the hood are all redesigned and have straighter lines which suit the new grille and headlights.

Skoda Yeti facelift
Coming to the sides of the car, the profile pretty much remains the same but looks a little smoother now. The wheels have been redesigned as well. The rear has also received styling tweaks. The trunk lid now shows triangular kinks which are also carried by the Indian version of Skoda Rapid. The tail lights have been modified and now they endorse C shaped inserts which could be fitted with LED lights. The rear of the car also gets a smoother bumper along with redesigned reflectors.

Skoda Yeti facelift Interiors

Talking about the car’s interior, there are a few noticeable changes made here also. The cabin now has a new steering wheel and the seat fabric and colour shades have also been given some improvements. While we know so much about the cosmetic upgrades, we still do not know anything about the changes made to the car’s engine. So it is expected that Yeti will offer the same engine options, as it does now. If any changes have been made then probably they will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show only.

Skoda Yeti facelift Back View

Skoda will be unveiling two variants of Yeti at the show which are Yeti City and Yeti Outdoor. The City variant is free from the black plastic elements on its exterior and offers new coloured elements. This makes its look more appealing. The Outdoor version will carry the black plastic elements and thus will look more rugged. As if now, we do not have any info regarding the pricing of this car or regarding its arrival into the country.

Skoda unveiled its new 2013 Octavia in India

Finally the 2013 Octavia is here! Skoda has dropped the curtains and finally we get to see the latest model of Octavia. On a global scale, Skoda has sold so far 4 million units of Octavia. This new car has more room, functionality and is using the latest technology. Chairman, Skoda Auto, Winfried Vahland, while addressing a press conference said that “The Octavia is the most important car for Skoda in the Indian market.”

Skoda Octavia was launched the company in the year 1996. This was the second time that the company used an Octavia nameplate for its car. Earlier Octavia named car was launched in between the year 1959 and 1971. The first gen car stayed in the market till 2004. The second gen car entered the market in 2004.

It was launched in India in the year 2001 and it became a great hit in the country. The reasons for the success of this small car was that it was comfortable, fast and sturdy and most importantly it was cost effective. The 2nd gen car, Skoda Octavia, was launched in India was Skoda Laura. Although it was also a success but it could not create a magic like its predecessor. Now with the launch of the 2013 Octavia, it is expected that Octavia will once again rule the hearts of Indians.

New 2013 Skoda Octavia
Talking about the new Octavia, the exterior looks amazing with its crisp cuts. The strokes and elegant proportions give the car a pretty body. The new model includes the company’s new Butterfly grille with 21 glossy slats and a 2 tone company badge fixed on it. The front fascia also show redesigned headlamps and a square jaw. Towards the rear of the car you see a black splitter.

The car interior is definitely luxurious but at the same time is very practical. For this new model the chrome highlights and wood panels have been excluded. The dashboard is neatly designed with minimum modifications. The vents and the C pillar have a similar flick. The centre console gets a new multi-colour touchscreen with plastic-like black lacquer around it. The gear lever and doors use a lot of aluminium. Adding to the look of the cabin are its white on black dials. The interior is highly spacious. Being 90 mm longer and 45 mm wider and a 108 mm larger wheelbase, the car is visibly spacious and offers more legroom now. The seats are large and highly comfortable. There is storage space for bottles, phones etc. The boot capacity is an astounding 590 liters and when the rear seats are folded the capacity reaches upto 1000 liters.

New 2013 Skoda Octavia Interiors

A major difference between this new car and its previous models is its low weight. The car uses VW’s MQB platform which has succeeded in curbing the car weight substantially in spite of the larger dimensions. The new model is comparatively 70 kg lighter. The lighter weight is also reflected in the car’s performance which now offers a better performance as well as lower emissions.

The new 2013 Octavia will be available with 2 engine options after its launch initially. The petrol variant will be powered by a TSI engine of 1.8 liter capacity as seen in Laura but has been re-tuned to offer a power output of 177 bhp now. The diesel variant is equipped with a TDI engine of 2 liter capacity that gives an output of 141 bhp. Both the variants will have a 7 speed automatic transmission via DSG gearbox. Later on the company might launch a 4 liter petrol engine variant.
