10 Best Car Keys Ever Made

Designing a car is one part, and designing its key fob is another.

The million-dollar cars speak out loud when thrown open to the road, but what’s about the performance and dignity that cannot be explained to someone else at a chat over a dinning-table! There come the key-fobs in picture which speaks more than you could have thought of. So, this must have taken the designers to place themselves aggressively towards this aura. Here, we listed down best of the keys that are made in the world just to keep it speaking of your car every time.

BMW i8

There isn’t anything better than a BMW i8; its key fob replicates the same. A LCD screen depicting details like battery-charge, fuel in the fuel-tank, distance to be crossed before the next charge; it can set the temperature remotely before entering the cabin.  Must say – literally Genius!

Aston Martin

Squared out of crystal, the Aston Martin key fob is an art itself – as becomes the start button when inserted. More to it, the British automaker developed a watch too in association with Jaeger-LeCoultre that locks and unlocks the Aston just by a touch on its dial. To lock – touch between 8 and 9; to unlock – touch between 3 and 4. Really a Bond-ish!

Koenigsegg CCXR key

With love from Sweden that can be very exclusive, it’s none other than Koenigsegg CCXR key. Looked to be an actual realization of the company’s logo, it has a rubber button at the back that makes the car’s alarm operational. Well, does seem like holding a small turtle on our palms, Swede must have referred to nature for their inspiration of doing different this time.

The Dutch and Swede may not have the same ideology of building a supercar, but it looks they both must have hired the same team of designers to design their keys. The Spyker that is quite niche in itself has made its key fob the same way.

Pagani Huayra

Enticingly Italian, Pagani commands dominance over the rest when it leashes out on road. The key fob designed keeping such dominance; it is bound to crave a one even if you don’t own a Huayra.

Tesla Model S

Tesla always cracks up criticisms whenever talked about. But this may never happen if the buyers would flaunt the key. Designed as the miniature of Model S, the slick, stylish and suede, it is the car’s key underneath the sheath.

Porsche 917

Those who think Porsche only make brilliant cars; must think again what the best trick to gain a better performance is? Simply, cut down the weight is the right answer – but till what extent – Porsche answered it rightly. The 917 key had 8 holes drilled, which may look unusual and dud, but it was actually for keeping it as light as possible.

Bugatti Veyron Top Speed Key

The fastest doesn’t need a single key. To brag the competition more extreme, Bugatti gave the Veyron an application to reach more than the maximum limit by unleashing its raw power from “another key” apart from the standard one. Elicited a keyhole behind the driver’s seat, the special top-speed key when inserted makes the Veyron to lower its chassis, shut the front air diffusers and run a few seconds of safety checks to cross the mark of more than 400km/h…isn’t that whopping!

Ford Pre 1980s

Multipurpose concept cannot be explained better than this, a screw driver to open most of Ford model’s in pre 1980’s era. Had anyone made a spanner as the key to drive a car?

VW PCP Car’s Key

Volkswagen PCP (people’s car project) may be restricted to the China, but its’ key has made the whole fraternity to go nuts. Likewise to the BMW’s i8, it has a screen that shows the details, which it can trace the lost vehicle via satellite.

Maruti Ciaz vs Honda City vs Hyundai Verna vs Volkswagen Vento: Specifications Comparison

Ciaz isn’t the first attempt of Maruti to invade the sedan segment. Prior, Baleno and SX4 were the failed initiatives. So, casing the car rightly and playing all the tweaks as per the trend is an only way out for this Indian carmaker of restoring faith.

Pitting Ciaz against the rivals like Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento, the mid-size Honda seemed doing better job than anyone else in terms of numbers. Albeit, the rest two aren’t lagging in their profiles either.

Numerous numbers of models available in the market made choices more complicated. Hence, it’s the only reason many model plates are escaladed from this compare. Those wiped out eligible candidates were Nissan Sunny facelift, New Ford Fiesta and Fiat Linea.

Maruti Ciaz vs Honda City vs Hyundai Verna vs Volkswagen Vento: Specifications Comparison

The Ciaz powered by a 1.4L petrol engine produces 91bhp and 130Nm of torque. The diesel stock is filled with a 1.3L Fiat Multijet of 89bhp and 200Nm. Both the machines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the petrol buyers can also go for a 4-speed automatic if they wish so.

Honda City, one of the best selling cars of its time, is now re-launched in new avatar, this time the diesel engine option is also made available. Powering to the City comes from a 1.5L i-VTEC (petrol) and 1.5L i-DTEC (diesel) engines. Former option shells out 118bhp and 145Nm of torque, the latter one is of 98.63bhp and 200Nm torque. Five-speed manual is standard, whereas the CVT is only for gasoline buyers.

The Vento from Volkswagen lends two engine options of petrol; smaller 1.2L TSI turbocharged motor delivering 103.56bhp and 175Nm, whilst of the bigger 1598cc pounds out 103.56bhp with a comparatively lower 153Nm of torque. The TSI motor of 1.2L displacement gets a seven-speed DSG automatic; the bigger version drives only a five-speed manual transmission.

The German engineered sedan in diesel counts of a 1598cc engine refined the power delivery of 103.56bhp and 250Nm. A five-speed manual transmission is the only option aided.

Likewise Vento, Verna too holds couple of engine options for the petrol market. The machine boasted of 1396cc, successfully makes 105.53bhp and 135Nm of torque. The bigger one touted of 1591cc, generates 121.36bhp and 158Nm of torque. Apart from the 5-speed manual, the elder gets a 4-speed automatic.

On the diesel counter, Verna stands alone with two engine options. The 1396cc churning a goodness of 88.76bhp and 219Nm, whilst the bigger and boulder 1582cc mill rakes in 126.32bhp and 260Nm. A 6-speed manual is just an ordinary; the extra-ordinary here is the four-speed automatic which is a unique in the segment.

Dimensionally, the Ciaz is longest amongst all. Measuring 2650mm at the wheelbase, Maruti sedan is 50mm longer than the Honda City (of 2600mm wheelbase). The third position holder in this category is Hyundai Verna of 2570mm, while Vento is the last arrival at 2552mm. In the length, Ciaz too outshines the rest at 4490mm. Honda city follows the trail being 50mm shorter, Vento by 106mm and Verna by 120mm.

At wider side, the Maruti plugged at 1730mm in width, is 35mm more than the City, 31mm by Vento and 30mm than the Hyundai Verna. Heightened to 1485mm, Ciaz stands taller than Vento by 19mm and Verna by 10mm. Here, the City wins over by a mere margin of 10mm.

Maruti in the petrol trim is lowest on power and torque than the rest. Verna is the highest followed by Honda City. Vento must be applauded for delivering the so powerful output from a small displacement. Thanks to the turbocharger, otherwise that wouldn’t be possible for the German.

The Diesel side winners’ trophy too goes to Hyundai Verna, the second spot was taken over by VW Vento. The Ciaz and Verna’s smaller displacement occupies the last spot, while the Honda makes to third with a satisfactorily sinking number.

Hence, the Ciaz rocks all the aesthetic chart; but when it came to power it lost the game to others, nor even making a way to top in one of them either. The on-paper rivalry revealed a part of the moment of truth, but an actual test drive may spill out the beans in its favour that would change the game forever, apparently the country’s best fuel-economy delivered with refinement. The other aspect to it is also the pricing. So, let the guessing game be going on till it reaches a dead-end.

Fiat Punto Evo vs Volkswagen Polo Facelift vs Maruti Swift vs Nissan Micra: Specifications Comparison

The battle of hatchbacks just got bigger and better when the Fiat launched Punto Evo last week and Volkswagen launched the Polo facelift some days back. To make the choices more complicated for a customer who had to opt the hatchbacks in new car segment, models like Maruti Swift and new Nissan Micra were already available with their fancying and fortifying gestures. Here, now in this section, we decided to blow up the lid against each one of them to lead an ‘on-paper insight’ that would show who is better than the else, and are they worth for the every penny spend? Do find out the whole gist to decide which one shall be betted best.

Fiat Punto Evo is chapped with two engine options of petrol, and a diesel in two states of tune. It is the 67bhp/96Nm 1.2-litre and an 89bhp/115Nm 1.4-litre petrol. In the diesel, the famous 1.3-liter Multijet comes in tunes of – 75bhp/197Nm and 90bhp/209Nm. All of them are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, with no automatic transmission provided at the moment. All the engines of Fiat Punto are pumped by four-cylinders.

Fiat Punto

Likewise the Fiat Punto Evo, Volkswagen Polo facelift too offers couple of options in petrol engine and a diesel one in two state of tunes. Naming them, the 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol is given away with a 74bhp/110Nm where the more powerful and sportier one for GT TSI is teamed with the 1.2-liter direct-injection, four-cylinder engine of 103bhp/175Nm paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission.

In the diesel trim the new Polo gets settled for a 1.5-liter four-cylinder making 89bhp/230Nm and 104bhp/250Nm, all of them married to a five-speed manual gearbox.

In the rewind era of Swift and Micra, they both are applied with a single petrol and diesel engine without complications. The Maruti Swift spins its power from a 1.2-liter four-cylinder petrol motor of 86bhp/114Nm and 1.3-liter Multijet diesel does 74bhp/190Nm. Another Japanese car in the comparison i.e. the Nissan Micra, revamped last year, with new front grille and some other cosmetic gimmicks, proves its worth from a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol and 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. The petrol motor whips power of 75bhp/104Nm while the diesel one powers out the breezy 63bhp/160Nm. On offer, CVT is also provided to petrol buyers.

Volkswagen Polo Facelift

Hence, none of the diesel variants gets an automatic transmission, which means the one who will bring out the easy shifts for diesel buyers shall definitely have a winner on his hand.

Space On-Board

Italians loves to have roomy interiors and we Indians too. Hence, the same can be seen reflected in Punto Evo measuring the longest with a wheelbase of 2510mm. It gets a close riff from the Polo facelift with 2469mm wheelbase. Next to them in the list stands Nissan Micra with a wheelbase of 2450mm, while the Maruti crumbles with a snuggly 2430mm wheelbase.

Maruti Swift

One more time, Fiat Punto Evo conquers the top-spot with 3989mm of overall length, 1687mm width and 1525mm height. VW Polo falls shorter to it by 18mm of length, Maruti by 139mm and Nissan Micra by 164mm. Likewise, on the width Evo fares as best amongst the group but Swift outdoes it in this context. When standing tall, Polo is shorter amongst all, while Evo is 56mm taller than that German hatchback, but is slightly butch down by 5mm against Swift and Micra.

On paper, the VW Polo facelift score more power than anyone else and too had number of options lined in order for a wider array of audience. Fiat Punto falls second to the number of engine options provided. Meanwhile, the Nissan Micra needs to add up something against them in the competition if it wishes to surge a step ahead, but one can also opt for Micra Active if wished to go a bit lower on price. Maruti Swift, one’s not needed to say anything about it. It’s just fairing the best amongst all.
