Maruti Suzuki India Limited came into existence on 14th December 1983 and captured almost half of the market share in India precisely 45% for more than 2 decades. It's no wonder that it's been rated as the no.1 company amongst all the car manufacturers in India, for customer satisfaction, that too for a continuous period of 10 consecutive years (from 1999 to 2009). Maruti Suzuki's headquarter is in Delhi. Initially, Maruti Suzuki was named as Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) with 54.2% shares to Suzuki (Japan) and 18.2% shares to Government of India. But at the time of BJP reign, government sold its shares as the initial public offering and hence the birth of Maruti Suzuki India Limited on 17 September 2007. Maruti Suzuki manufactures 4 types of passenger cars. Under the entry level, Maruti Suzuki offers Maruti Alto and Maruti 800, in the category of hatchback cars they offer Maruti A-Star, Maruti Ritz, Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Swift and Maruti Estillo. Under the sedan category they offer Maruti SX4 and Maruti DZire and in the last category SUV, they have the Maruti Grand Vitara. Till 2004, Maruti 800 was the India's largest selling compact car from the time of its inception in 1983, Right now Maruti Suzuki Alto is on top of the chart for it scintillating performance in sales and Maruti Suzuki Swift for the highet sales in A2 category. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has their manufacturing plant in two cities namely Gurgon and Manesar. The manufacturing plant in Gurgaon has the capacity to produce 350,000 units annually whereas the manufacturing plant in Manesar which was launched in Feb 2007 works as the assembly unit and have a capacity of producing 100,000 units annually. The diesel engine plant has a capacity to produce 100,000 transmissions and engines. And that is the reason for company's annual domestic sales of over 730,000 and exports of more than 50,000.
