Established in 1997, Volkswagen India Private Limited is a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited (VGSIPL). Volkswagen Group Sales is generally referred to as the Volkswagen Group. Volkswagen group is a German Automobile Manufacturer. The headquarter of the Volkswagen India is in Pune. There are currently three brands in India that represents the Volkswagen Group. They are Skoda (Volkswagen's very first brand launched in India), Audi, and Volkswagen itself. Each brand has their own characteristics, and hence operates as an individual entity. The product range of Volkswagen Group varies from the low fuel consumption vehicle to the luxury class vehicle. Basically the Volkswagen India represents the luxury class and is also the highest volume brand of the Volkswagen group. Volkswagen India Private Limited has 49 dealerships across 40 cities all over India and the company is planning to expand it to 200 by 2012. Volkswagen India not only gives importance to the dealership and the sales figure, but also does the groundwork of after sales services for the customers satisfaction, so as to build goodwill among the customers.

Volkswagen India Private Limited has a manufacturing plant in Chakan, which is capable of producing 110,000 vehicles annually. The manufacturing plant is shared by Skoda Auto India Private Limited for the sole reason of assembling the Skoda Fabia. Currently Volkswagen India Private Limited manufactures Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Passat, Volkswagen Vento and Volkswagen Jetta. Volkswagen India also imports some of its models from its Mexico manufacturing plant namely the Volkswagen Touareg, Volkswagen Phaeton and Volkswagen Beetle. Also, Volkswagen India is set to launch 3 new models on Indian shores i.e. Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Rocktan by April 2011 and Volkswagen Up by the end of 2011. The main strategy of the Volkswagen India is to establish a long term presence and relationship with the Indian market. Simultaneously, the company believes to contribute to the positive development of the nation also.
