Nissan Motors India Private Limited started their operation with the launch of a CBU, the Nissan X-trail in 2005. Nissan Motors India is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nissan Motors Japan. Nissan Motors maintains a global partnership with a French manufacturer Renault. In accordance with Renault, Nissan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Tamil Nadu for setting up of their manufacturing plant somewhere near Chennai (Oragadam), under a period of 7 year and a sum of Rs. 4500 crores. This manufacturing plant was completed in 2008. Before this manufacturing plant, Nissan used to sell their CBU's in Indian market. This manufacturing plant in Chennai is spread over to an area of 650 acres and has a capacity of manufacturing 200000 units annually which Nissan expect to grow to 400000 in the near future, once they attain their full capacity. Currently this plant manufactures only Nissan Micra, for the Indian as well as the European Market and is going to manufacture other models very soon for the Indian market. Nissan as of now provides four types of car, under the SUV section there is Nissan X-Trail, under the luxury sedan category there's Nissan Teana, under sports car there's iconic Nissan 370Z (all of them are imported from Japan) and then under the hatchback category there's Nissan Micra manufactured solely in India. Currently, Nissan Motors India Private Limited has a dealership of 20, in 11 states and 1 union territory. With a plan to have more than 100 dealerships in India by 2013, Nissan Motors India Private Limited have appointed Hover Automotive India as a representative and a strategic alliance partner for their service, parts, sales, manufacturing development etc. Nissan Motors India truly believes in their vision "Enriching People's Lives" as they have already started with the social work in India. They have started constructing homes for the people relocated due to the manufacturing plant. Apart from that, they have built a local police station and also a 'Habitat for Humanity' as a home for 75 families which are economically less fortunate.
