Generally referred as Skoda Auto India, Skoda Auto India private Limited was established in the year 2001. Skoda Auto India is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Czech automotive manufacturer, Skoda Auto. Skoda Auto came into the Indian market with their first car Skoda Octavia and a pricing strategy that never till then was seen by the Indian market. This car was targeted at the premium segment of the Indian market. Definitely, Skoda Octavia was a hit among the Indian masses, as it offered the best deal available in the market. After running successfully for almost a decade, this car was finally discontinued by the company in the year 2010. Currently Skoda Auto India private Limited has a dealership of 70 across 51 cities across India. Initially there was only one manufacturing plant in Aurangabad in Maharashtra. But in May 2009 Skoda Auto announced that they will be operating side by side in the Volkswagen plant in Chakan, Pune. The plant will be used only as the assembly unit for Skoda Fabia. This plant has a total capacity to produce 110,000 vehicles per annum.

Skoda Auto India private Limited if have heard applauds, has also heard much criticism as well. Basically, the super hatchback model Skoda Fabia, that was launched in the year 2008 was criticised for its inconsistent fuel efficiency and many other things. There was also a major blooper in Skoda Auto India's history, when one of the authorised Skoda India dealers intentionally swapped the parts of a car that was supposed to go for servicing, with the defective ones which ultimately lead to an accident. The consumer went to the consumer court, which ultimately announced that the Skoda Auto India has to pay for the repair. Then there was another such type of case where the court ordered the company to replace the car with a brand new one.

Currently the company is in good shape and manufactures two of the models locally namely the recent one Skoda Fabia and Skoda Laura. Then there are other imported CBUs also, which adds to the list. They are the Skoda Yeti and Skoda Superb. Skoda Auto is expecting a great deal out of the two new launches in the year 2011. Both Skoda Fabia Combi and Skoda Roomster will be launched by May 2011 and the Skoda Fabia Roomster by June 2011.
