Force Motors was initially named as Firodia Tempo Ltd. This name was quickly changed to Bajaj Tempo Ltd once, Bajaj Auto acquired some stakes in the company. However, after buying out the stakes from Bajaj, the company owners, the Firodias have renamed the company as Force Motors. In 1958, this company was started by N.K.Firodia and he was succeeded by his son Abhay Firodia, who is the current Chairman of this company. In the late 80s as also the earlier 90s, Force Motors produced various light commercial vehicles, state of the art tractors and also some three wheelers. The company manufactures trucks at Pithampur, the industrial hub of Madhya Pradesh in Indore in a joint venture, Man Force Trucks Pvt. Ltd, with MAN AG of Germany. MAN Force trucks are exported overseas to countries such as Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and certain African nations; markets where a low selling price is essential.
Mr Prasan Firodia is the current Managing Director of the company and along with the presence of Mr Abhay Firodia and Mr Amitabh Bachhan, the Force One SUV was launched on 19/8/2011. This is the company's first foray into the passenger SUV segment and the Force One SUV is priced at a price tag of Rs 10.61 lakhs. Balwan is the name of the brand under which the company currently manufactures its tractors. Ox is another subsidiary wherein which the company manufactures the tractors. More than 4000 SUVs is what the company plans to sell in its first year for the Force One. The company is well known for its Tempo Trax model which is a rugged multi utility people carrier.
