Genio, the new genie from Mahindra’s magic lamp







Indian auto major Mahindra and Mahindra has launched its newest pick-up, the 1.2 tonne Genio. The CV is equipped with a 2.5ltr CRDE MDI engine which is capable of producing 220Nm torque and 77PS power. A top speed of 120 kmph has been claimed by the company for the new pick-up. Another brandishing for the pick-up was the supposed 20,000 km mark of oil change interval. In another first, the new Genio comes with tubeless tyres. The BS3 variant of the Mahindra Genio is billed at Rs 4.99 Lakh ( Navi Mumbai ex-showroom). The BS4 variant is also made available for the markets of BS4.

M&M Ltd which is a part of the Mahindra group has thus kick started its new journey in the new age commercial vehicle segment through its latest offering. The Genio has been developed and designed so as to meet the needs of the medium and small business transportation. The new pick-up is positioned to change the face and nature of the pick-up segment of India. The Genio is equipped with style, international looks, technology, and design as also offers the comfort of the ultimate nature. It has also been shrewdly and competitively priced at Rs 4.99 lakhs.

The Genio is the second product which has rolled out of the state-of-the-art Mahindra’s plant at Chakan. Industry experts are of the view that the finish and build quality of the pick-up is an unseen phenomenon among all the CVs in India. Apart from the styling which is world class, the interiors and the appeal of the pick-up are touted as the new benchmark in the industry.

Packaged with several technologies, comfort and utility features, which has never been offered before in the CV segment of pick-ups. Beyond doubt, the Genio has an upper hand with regards to its nearest competitors.  President-Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors at M&M, Dr. Pawan Goenka was quoted as saying that the company has launched the new pick-up Genio to offer the customers a one-of-its-kind commercial vehicle which was a result of extensive insight of the customers which captured the latent needs of the potential customers. He further added that the Genio was the ideal CV for SMEs, traders and businessmen and the company was upbeat that the latest offering will prove as a game changer for this sector.

Revealing more about the pick-up, Dr Goenka added that the Genio was built on the already existing Ingenio platform. The said platform gives superior chassis, cab design and the proven aggregates of transmission and engine which in the process delivers the space and comfort paralleled to a car’s.

Chief Executive-automotive division at M&M, Rajesh Jejurikar was of the view that the pick-up segment is 6500 units per month entity and growing. The company with already  a majority share in the market, the onus fall on them to provide technically superior products with a view to drive the growth in the industry.

Rigorous test runs have been done with the Genio and the pick-up has been validated for all the safety, reliability and performance parameters. The vehicle will be supported by the service network of the Mahindra’s which is among the largest and widely spread across India.

The Genio will be offered in 4 attractive color choices- Skyline Blue, Marvel Granite, Diamond White and Silver Shine (Metallic). The vehicle will be made available, in the initial launching phase, at 70 different dealerships. It is expected to be sold over-the-counter pan India through the Mahindra dealership by the mid of month of February.
