Lamborghini Huracan India Launch This September

At a time when ultra luxury automakers France’s Bugatti, Germany’s Gumpert and Sweden’s Agera have failed to impress India’s billionaires, the Italian carmaker Lamborghini grew by 29% to retail 22 units last year. The pull for the company has spurred interest of the Lamborghini and made it look closely at the market here for its latest offering – the Huracan. Set to be revealed in September this year, the Huracan has already registered 1000 bookings worldwide. Pavan Shetty, Head of Operations, Lamborghini India said: “Some of these have come from the well-heeled in India. Huracan that’s already one of the most sought-after models in Lamborghini’s lineup has been conceived as a replacement for Gallardo. The vehicle is expected to be offered for Rs. 3.4 crore.

Interestingly, India was one of the few markets internationally where the Italian automaker hosted special private previews of the new model. With the introduction of Huracan, the brand is looking to up the ante in terms of an expanded and increased presence and overall volumes. The automaker is also looking at commencing deliveries from September this year.

As compared to most ultra luxury automakers who retail from a single showroom across India, Lamborghini is looking at adding a third outlet in Bangalore in the second half of this year. Shetty said: “What we have done differently from our competition is that we have dealer outlets in both Mumbai and Delhi. We are also looking at opening a third outlet in Bangalore by the second half of 2014, which will cater to southern market. It will broaden our reach and also help in extending our servicing network. We offer round the clock service and our technicians can reach any destination within a day.”

Motivation for the Lamborghini Huracan comes from a naturally-aspirated 5.2 liter V10 engine that’s rated at 618PS of peak power at 8250rpm and 560 newton meters of peak torque. The engine is teamed up with a dual clutch 7-speed transmission, the first for Lamborghini. The automaker claims that the Huracan can sprint between 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds and 0-200kmph in 9.9 seconds with a top speed of over 325kmph. Currently, the Huracan comes with all wheel drive although lighter, more powerful; rear wheel drive versions are expected next year.
