Mercedes B200: First Drive

Mercedes is finally all set to bring in the smallest car in its domain with its B-Class. In the coming couple of months, the B-Class will probably the smallest car that one can buy in Germany.

However, reports already suggest that it’ll be the A-Class that will make its way to be the smallest car in the Mercedes lineup, but it has some time to hit the floors though. Although the B-Class has been tagged with the name, grand sports tourer, but it’s actually more like a multi purpose vehicle (MPV). The car is actually quite big. It’s just that it’s a bit smaller than the C-Class. With a pleasant outlook and 18-inch rims, the B-Class is already being presumed to make ways to our hearts.

Initially, the German carmaker will introduce B-Class in petrol avatar with six-speed manual transmission. Diesel variant is to be introduced later sometime. As far as the powerhouse of the car is concerned, the B-Class grand sports tourer will be featuring a 1.6L 4-cylinder petrol heart that churns out a power of 156bhp and a torque of 250Nm. Although, the aforesaid figures look promising but if you’re used to the C-Class driving, you’re certainly going to miss your C-Class.

Even with front-wheel drive, decent handling and lighter steering (compared to the C-Class), the B-Class actually distinguishes itself in terms of the interior features. With 468-litre boot space and apt seating space for its passengers, the B-Class certainly doesn’t feel like being a hatchback.

The upcoming B-Class has very fine chances of carrying any fault in its design. On the other hand, the company hasn’t disclosed the price tag of the grand sports tourer, but still is to be the cheapest Mercedes available. The car is being expected to cost somewhere around Rs.24-26 lakh.
