New Porsche 911 Targa unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show

Porsche has unveiled the 911 Targa at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. The new 911 Targa is a mix of the classis design that the original 1967 Porsche 911 had along with the modern day features of open-top motoring. The Porsche 911 Targa shares the mechanical package and body style with the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. As a part of the classic design, the B-pillar hoop extends over the cockpit along with the matte chrome finish.

The convex rear screen is a throw back design with the one piece glass structure being attached to the rear body. The shape of the car on the rear end is similar to the dome shape of the 911 cabriolet’s fabric roof. In comparison to the original 911 Targa, which had a roof panel that could be manually removed, the new Targa has a fully automatic structure.

The process used in Targa is similar to that used in 911 cabriolet, since the body work of engine lid, rear screen and the roof panel motors have a throwback design. Just like the other 911 models, the Targa will be launched globally with naturally aspirated six petrol engines. The car 911 Targa 4 is said to be powered by a 345bhp, 3.0-litre engine, while the Targa 4S will be powered by a 395bhp, 3.8 litre engine. The car will be offered with seven speed dual clutch automatic or seven-speed manual gearbox. While the Targa 4S can go from 0 to 100kmph in a span of 4.4 seconds, the new 911 Targa 4 with Sport Chrono and PDK gearbox can go from 0 to 100kmph in a span of 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 281kmph.
