Toyota is currently working on a new generation model of Corolla to be sold in India and around the globe. The new model has been code named as E160 and is under the process.
The car that is known as Corolla Altis in India and just Corolla is markets like US, the new upcoming car features aggressive styling and sporty details. The upcoming model will be based on the Furia concept car that was showcased as the Detroit Motor Show in January. With the new car company is mainly targeting at younger pack of customers. The body styling and the looks have been designed to make an appeal to the younger audience.
The car has also witness some of the radical detailing directly down from Toyota Furia, but a lot of core design has been retained to keep its identity. The car will still feature Shoulder line, heavily creased bumpers and kink on the window line, these all together gives this car a sharper look.
The car maker has mainly focused on the cleaning the looks of the previous cars, something which have already been seen on the Camry. The rear resembles quite lot with the Camry, with sharp tail lamps and thick band of chrome running between them.
The front part of the car is more dynamic bit the base of the bumper still resembles with the old Corolla. The grilles and headlights have been integrated into a single element. What will be interesting to see is if Toyota will be carrying the same wheelbase that it showcased with Furia that was about 100mm longer than the current car.
The engine that will be power the new car is expected to be the same engine that powers the current car. Both 1.8 litre and 1.4 litre diesel will be updated with improved performance and efficiency before making its way to the new car. The 1.8 petrol will receive dual VVTi as earlier. Both the engine and the gearbox will be optimized to make new Corolla more efficient and it will also come with a 7-speed CVT automatic gearbox. The 1.4 diesel will come with the variable geometry as Altis but the power will not be crossing 90 bhp. However, one thing is clear that the efficiency and performance for both the variants will be improved.
