Rexton-An off-roader in India with mean looks

Joining hands in the domestic market with Korando, in Ssanyong’s Indian line-up will be the old-school SUV, called the Rexton. Based on the decades old tried and trusted mechanicals for the last generation of Mercedes-Benz M-class, the car that we are to receive is the Rexton II (Y300). It was upgraded as recently as the year 2010 with a variable geometry turbo. This makes the car look as unusual as the original one.

It is powered by a 2.7-litre, five-cylinder turbo-diesel which is capable of producing power equivalent to 162bhp along with a 34.8Kgm torque via a Five-speed automatic transmission. Besides this the Rexton is well-suited for off-road drive, complete with decent ground clearance, permanent-all-wheel-drive, and traction control. It also has an independent suspension as it uses the body-on-frame chassis. The suspension also has double wishbones up front and a multi-link assembly at the rear.

The Rexton will appeal to that class of buyers, who like it rough and rocky with a tough build sound mechanical marvel. But that comes secondary, before that the real question that needs to be answered is, Can they digest the look?
