The new entrant in the luxury car market, Audi has seen a phenomenal increase in its fortune since venturing into India. The German giant has posted a humongous growth rate of 81 per cent in the year 2010. It has once again surpassed the annual target. The company sold 3003 units in this financial year, which when compared to sales figures of the previous year was 1658 units, a net rise of 1345 units. December once again proved the shifting pattern of car sales with a record number of sales of 212 cars, a growth of around 96 percent which is mind blowing. If we were to compare the sales figure year on year for the month of December alone, this year the sales were more than double.
The German major is hopeful that the phenomenal success it has achieved in the SUV segment would translate into success for the sedan segment as well. It was not India alone which contributed to the success story of Audi, globally as well Audi has went on to achieve hereto unseen exceptional success, in 2010. On the continent of Europe, Audi has achieved what Napoleon had only dreamt of, the numero uno position. Same was the case with China, where it came out as the ultimate winner. Worldwide, the German major was able to sell 1,092,400 units, which when compared to the previous year was still a commendable 950, 000 units, A net increase by 142,400 units. This has surpassed all previous records of Audi as a car manufacturer.
Audi is focusing heavily towards the future. With the plan to invest 11.6 billion pounds for the period 2011-2015 on new products, technologies and people, in addition with upgrading the existing sites. Out of all the investment an estimate of 80 percent will be solely dedicated to technologies and developing of new products namely hybrids and electric cars.
Audi has a range of models in India which includes Audi TT, Audi A4-A7 and the sports car Audi R8. The entire range of models are made available across India in Lucknow, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Kochi, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai West, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Pune.
