Toyota Liva finally launched in India

After much speculations on whether Toyota Kirloskar Motors would be able to launch its much speculated Toyota Liva in India, the Japanese company finally launched it today. The Liva follows the Etios with its value for money proposition context and built only for the Indian market theme. However, the public interest in this very capable hatchback is due to the fact that it would be the cheapest car in India carrying the “T” badge, not the Tata one but the much coveted Toyota one. Earlier on, the Liva was scheduled for a March 2011 launch, however, the Tsunami which struck Japan delayed the launch. Moreover, Toyota’s plant in India wouldn’t be able to cope up with the combined demand of both the Etios as also the Liva at that time.

Toyota have finally satiated the Indian car buying public’s demand by pricing the Liva very well. The base model which is termed as J is priced at a very competitive Rs 3.99 lakhs. In total there are 5 variants. The next up variant G costs Rs 4.59 lakhs, G (Special) costs Rs 5.05 lakhs, V is available for Rs 5.49 lakhs while the top end VX version is available for Rs 5.99 lakhs. All these prices are ex-show room, Delhi. Toyota aims the Liva to satiate the requirements of young people who are in the age group of 25-35. Music baron, A R Rahman has been once again roped to promote this small car from the Toyota stables. With this new launch, days after the 2011 Corolla Altis was launched, Toyota have sales target figures numbering 20k units by this year end. The 1.2 liter petrol engine makes 78.9 Bhp of peak power and torque figure of 10.6 kgm. It is mated to a 5 speed manual from the Etios. 18.3 kmpl is the ARAI claimed fuel efficiency figure. A diesel variant is also on the cards by this year end or by early 2012. Currently Toyota have started bookings for this car and the warranty offered by the company is 3 years or 1 lakh kms, whichever is earlier.
