Volvo, the famous Swedish automaker is aiming to be the next big player in industry of auto-technology. Latest development on its desk is the all-new modular four-cylinder Drive-E engine family. This new breed of powerplant is first engulfed in the Volvo V40 for international markets.
The customers of 2015 Volvo V40 now had options to choose from. The D4 powered by a 188bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel, or a 242bhp V40 T5 with a twin-turbocharged petrol engine. The D4 version is employed with a new Denso-developed system of injector pressure sensors, the company claims, will enhance fuel metering for smoother running and cleaner exhaust emissions. The V40 D4 has a top speed of over 225kph and can reach 0-100kph in just 6.8sec.
Hopefully, the new Drive-E engine will power all the models of Volvo with more power figures at near future. “The Volvo V40 D4 offers a massive 80 hp more driving pleasure than other cars in the segment with CO2 emissions at that level. This is yet more proof that the Drive-E powertrains take efficient driving pleasure to a new dimension,” says Michael Fleiss, Vice President Powertrain at Volvo Car Group.
All the new engines will be built in Sweden. In addition, the company also intends to make Drive-E engines in China to power the models which will be produced there.
