The Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover, which was diminutive in its looks and seems to be getting a more trendy and sporty look with its new version, is all set to be released in 2013. The car is almost certainly to debut at the Geneva Auto show in 2013.
This car is most certainly going to be a hybrid version. Conceptually, it is most certainly a take from the auto manufacturer’s PX-MiEV II, which opened to great reviews at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2012. Positioned clearly for the rough and tough segments of the global market, the Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover would most undoubtedly find an appropriate market in both India as well as around the world.

The New Trendy Look:

The strikingly new design of the Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover catches the eye immediately. The rear bulky profile has been replaced with a sleeker and slender design. The front end has a better ergonomically upgraded profile with smoother and leaner grill work, giving it a lesser belligerent look. What has not changed are the stylish conical headlamps which merge in with the new look of the car – a thoughtful unnecessary upgrade as it blends in perfectly with the new front end look.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover has also incorporated wider brackets for optional fog lamps. The spoiler in the rear remains unchanged and because of the tapered change there could be some reduction in visibility from the acuity point of the person driving this car. Another great modification is the chiseling of the fenders which would reduce wheel bumps while negotiating tough terrains.

The Hybrid Factor:

As mentioned earlier, the Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover has taken inputs from the PX-MiEV II model and while one cannot confirm the technicalities of this car, it is an open secret that it would most certainly be released with the “Hybrid Powertrain” option. This option contains a four cylinder 2 liter engine and a gear box with six speeds. The car can rev up its 81 horsepower throttle, primarily electric motors, conceptually -plug in, charge and drive.
For the fuel obsessed Indian consumer this car on US roads gives approximately 141 miles per gallon, but that would be considerably reduced while driving in Indian conditions. To the mathematically inclined consumer who keeps a close watch on his or her wallet this car should cruise at between 20 to 23 miles per liter.

Overall, the Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover is an ambitious upgraded launch by a company who has seen a nosedive as far as profits are concerned. This car by all definitions and market positioning was due for a conversion and reports indicate that Mitsubishi is likely to have a winner here. This car will be showcased as the most fuel efficient car at the Geneva Auto Show.
