April 2011 will see Maserati coming to India

With most of the major luxury as well as low cost car manufacturers making a beeline for the Indian market, it is now hardly a surprise that Italian sports car as also luxury car manufacturer Maserati are heading to Indian shores. And well, the wait wouldn’t be for long and they will be landing up on Indian shores next month. Few would actually know that Maserati is a part of the Fiat Group as is Ferrari which made its debut in India this month. Maserati officials were quoted as saying that all the internationally available models from Maserati would be brought to the Indian market. India is no stranger to Maserati cars with many of India’s top politicians, industrialists and actors boasting of having one in their garage. The list of celebrities include Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Ambani and Vijay Mallya. Internationally Maserati sells only 3 models and all the three are expected in India at varying price levels.

Competing with the likes of Ferrari, Buggati, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini would be Maserati cars like the two-seater GranCabrio range, GranTurismo coupe and the Quattroporte sedan. The lowest price is estimated at the latter at Rs 3 crores whereas the highest price that a Maserati would probably command in India would be Rs 5 crores for the GranCabrio range. That is a lot of money however Maserati still believe that they have a huge market potential with more and more Indian customers opting for luxury brands from foreign companies.
